New Manager thread

The model is clear that we don't need a 'manager' and the head coach will be part of a wider team. Therefore, we seem to be aiming for the best coach and fledgling leader rather than best manager.

Getting someone who has learnt from some of the best has worked well for other clubs. Maresca, Arteta, Corberan, Kompany etc. have all done well having been mentored by a top coach.

Interesting that on twitter (and in my own mind too), Ryan Mason is an underwhelming pick but when we were linked with Heitinga it was exciting. Yet career-wise both have been Assistants to top managers and both have had very small stints as interim managers.

This Ramsay seems exciting to listen to and has also had a good coaching career. Again, it feels like he's more of a draw than Mason, but a stint at Minnesota does very little to prepare him for being manager in the championship.

In a nutshell, I have no issue with any of these assistants to top coaches, like Lijnders, Mason, Ramsey or Heitinga.

I agree Matt but the new coach or manager could be Klopp but what can you do with aging slow players like Bartley, Furlong, Mowatt and Wallace?

Our midfield is slow and lacks talent and creativity ie Mowatt and JM. Take Bellingham at Sunderland who is 19 and consistently good and in my view a class above Mowatt and JM. Again a new coach or manager can?t put there what?s not there!

We need a new keeper too ie another Palmer as clearly Griffiths not in the same class.

I do worry about a new coach not having the final say on incomings and outgoings. The loans this year have not been impressive and Holgate for one being poor - a blind man with a white stick must have given contracts to Cole and Frabotta. To have a clause in Bartieys contract to allow another year was sheer stupidity!

I do worry the whole picture needs sorting and not just the coach. Even Morrison hugely disappointed me by giving Grady minutes v Luton when clearly he?s been poor and was off. I question whether the coaching staff are too close to certain players. Whitwell was great but there are more talented youngsters so they need chances especially in no nothing games!

I get your point Al, but the new regime seem to be targeting different sorts of players and Price is an absolute Rolls Royce in the making. I think most clubs take a gamble from time to time and Frabrotta for example was on a free, so a cheap gamble. It didn't work out, so what? We didn't lose a lot. Overall the club have done really well.

I'd say the new gaffer can't have the final say, but should be part of the decision, it's a team based approach.

In terms of the goalie, I think we'll be looking at Griffiths very differently at the end of the season.
