I think most managers would want their own pick of backroom staff if given the choice, although it depends how keen they are to come.

Hinshelwood hadn't been on my radar until I saw him shooting up the odds, but looking at the largely unremarkable squad he had at York, he must have been getting something approaching the maximum out of them to finish where they did, even though they fell short in the playoffs.

We could contrast Hinshelwood's relative over-achievement with Stuart Maynard, whose biggest failing was that he didn't appear to get the best out of a Notts squad containing considerable talent. The club statement said as much.

Bearing in mind JJ never got match fit, Crowley went in Jan what considerable talent did we really have?
I agree he had to go but I watched those players week in week out and yes we had a solid back line and keeper and great DCM in Abbott and Didzy when available but I?m struggling to see which players stepped up consistently.

Chicken and egg I suppose. There certainly were injuries, but perhaps the owners are looking at several relatively recent signings who didn't particularly shine and thinking they're capable of far more than we've seen from them. Plus there's the whole 'inverted wingbacks' thing that seemed to drive a lot of people crazy.

If a new manager - whoever they are - walks in and gets something more out of several of the players who arrived during the last 18 months or so, then we'll know that Maynard's tactics were stifling their talent. Luke Williams managed to get the best out of a lot of players, so either our recruitment just went completely off the boil, or the coaching just wasn't maximising the talent.

I have to say, looking at the slow pace and the general lack of forward momentum and passion with which we played, especially after Saunders left, I'm open to thinking at least some of the recent recruits could do better with improved guidance.

I get the inverted wbs stuff but I saw Tarsoulla and Gordon play plenty of times not inverted and they were no better. Grants hardly had any great games, Whittaker couldn?t compete physically. Jatta missed a lot of chances post Christmas that seemed to knock his confidence further down the line even with Didzy mentoring him. Jarvis was always going to be a slow burner with no competitive games.

My view once the season got going and sighted it a few times on here was we had a decent solid squad with the magic dust of Crowley, JJ and Didzy and had we had them all play 75% of a full season I 100% believe we would have made the top 3.

Could have SM done better, more than likely but I do think he was against it with injuries and recruitment.

Christ, didn't realise what I'd started here! My first post since the OP...

    Just wanna say...

It's a massive NO for the York manager for me.

I watched them get complete obliterated by Oldham, who look like more of a L2 team.

York played like us in the national league days pre-Luke. It would be a massive step back.

Oldham pressed and bullied them...York had no answers. They went out the playoffs with a complete whimper. There's no way that guy is doing well in L2.

No to Hazelwood/Hishelwood or whatever he's called.
    Please No!!!

There's so many non-descript managers who fit the Brothers' MO - in fact most of them are in the betting odds.

I really hope it isn't Hinshelwood, Alves or Williams.

I think the betting market is a load of bull. There will be artificial activity to attract attention - and persuade fools to donate their money to the billionaires. The only way for them to offset the eventual ITK bets is generate enough interest to attract not-ITK donations

Surely the club knows that Alves has to take up another role. SM was ultimately responsible but Alves was there and associated - the squad has to have new faces and voices on the training ground and in the dug-out

As for Hinshelwood, the appointment would be too similar to the last one. You could even argue that SM's NL record was better than his as making Wealdstone competitive is on a par with nearly getting, but failing to get, a much bigger club promotion.

I'm sure the club don't want another divided fanbase, potentially underwhelmed senior players, a flat stadium, and to relive the same dynamic as the last 18months.

But to land a better candidate make take time, fans should allow for this and not do everyone's heads in complaining about it.

From what I've seen about rumours of him getting sacked after the Oldham result he was well backed financially in the local press.
