This is a true story. Mrs Outwood looking at the TV asks me Where is the control? Wot control sez I. The channel control she fires back. And I go. There is no channel control. The French police watch them dangerously overloading boats in shallow water. Then they eventually set off until we rescue them if they are so fortunate and bring them ashore. The only record thing under this Labour Government is the number of small boat arrivals. How many others are arriving by other routes is your guess.

I watched with a mixture of disdain and disbelief on a news channel last week footage of a French naval vessel actually escorting a dinghy full of people in the English Channel and handing them over to Border Control mid Channel. "Border Control" - now there's a misnomer if ever I saw one.
