Apologies to Yak if my words offended although I suspect they provoked no more than a shrug! However, my admittedly spiky words were provoked somewhat by an accusation that I don't live in the real world. "What's good for the goose..." etc.

I’m deeply sceptical about the notion that the state provides laptops for three reasons:

1. There would be no reason for them to be provided by the state;
2. If they were provided, GB News, The Daily Mail, The Daily Express and The Sun etc. would be all over it like a rash (they almost certainly bombard the Home Office with FOI requests hoping for bit of red meat that they can throw to their users); and
3. There are several charities that provide laptops to asylum seekers and other people in need, which wouldn’t be necessary if the state provided them. E.g.

I suspect it’s the activities of charities like that which have entered the social media machine and been morphed into ‘every asylum seeker gets a laptop’ stories for those who want to feel outraged by such things.
