I'd like to see taking your shirt off in celebration not being an automatic yellow card.
If the player hangs on to their shirt I can't see why it matters. Yes if they throw it and therefore cause a delay in kicking off.

I'm with Parky on this one, a couple of handshakes and back to the halfway line. Let's be honest if a teams 2 down and nick one in extra time it's grab the ball out of the goal and take it to the centre spot ASAP! No crap then!
I thought there was always a time limit on keepers holding the ball, but the law seems to constantly evolve. What's the significant change MA - the punishments I guess?
The old rule was 6 seconds. Not seen it given for years although I did always start counting aloud if a keeper was taking his time regularly or it was getting towards the end and they were defending a 1 goal lead. I'd also not start counting if an opponent was making his getting rid of the ball difficult.
Differences. Indeed the punishment. 1st offence it's a corner. 2nd it's yellow and a corner. 3rd it's a 2nd yellow, which is red, and a corner.
Another difference is that it also applies to goal kicks although I'm not sure when the count starts. When the ball goes out of play? When the keeper gets the ball back inside the pitch? When he places the ball on the 6 yard line? After he's walked back to start his run up?
Having said that, looking around various sites on the net, I'm now unsure of the terminology people are using. Some appear to refer to the keeper having the ball in his hand/control as also being a goal kick as opposed to what I would see as a dead ball goal kick. I'll need to do some more digging to sort this out.
Now found out that the 8 second rule DOESN'T apply to "dead ball goal kicks" following the ball going out of play.
I dunno, it's a passionate game. You are on a booking and score the winner sealing a cup final birth or whatever in the last minute..top comes off, gets sent off...Just seems wrong in that moment for him, or her, to say oh jolly hocky sticks I'm most delighted with that.
Yes I know the player should know better but if you or I are watching Derby in the play off final and they score a last minute winner we are going to go mad celebrating, players are human too with the same passions.
Actually though, one for an expert, what happens if a player whips his top off, gets booked then goal ruled out by var..does the booking still count?
