    New 5 Sub Rule

Before lockdown we were praised for the impact our substitutions made. A combination of canny management tactics and a strong bench often when the opposition were tiring reaped rewards. Clubs were envious of our talent waiting and ready in reserve. At times it was difficult to know who to leave out especially after Robinson and Grosicki came in January.

So when the new temporary rule for 5 subs was announced I was convinced we would benefit greatly, especially as Dianaga was also available again. I honestly expected us to run the opposition ragged and blitz teams towards the end of the games. I was quietly confident we would simply pull away and become champions.

BUT, I was totally wrong, the opposite has happened. Why?

Has the 5 sub rule actually undone us? Certainly Blackburn used it to great effect against us, and so did Huddersfield.

I thought exactly the same as you, our problem is we actually have too many attacking options on the bench and Billic feels the need to use them which is ok when you are winning the game but when we try chasing games we seem to become unbalanced i would rather have have been able to have 9 subs but still only use 3 also some of our players struggle to get into the game when they come off the bench and 3 or 4 of our players have really struggled for form since the restart i wander weather the lack of a crowd has also affected some of our players and they have struggled to get motivated.

Lack of a crowd can't be blamed as the opposition face the same problem.
I wonder why some of the players don't seem up for it. Could be they know they will be out of the door if we do go up!

Its No use bringing 5 forwards on if your midfield is not creating anything , they will all starve together ,

I think the drinks/tactical breaks have given us more of a problem since the restart than some of our more unusual substitutions. We're not obliged to use all five if we don't want to.

We have to play the game in four quarters though which gives the opposition a break and a chance to regroup. I understand it's the same for both teams but against those who sit back it seems to affect our rhythm more.

Totally agree 68 any momentum is lost hopefully it will be gone next season , then if we go up we will have VAR to contend with we will concede 20 pens a season ,
