No, they should pay the producers far more for those goods but can hold the prices to consumer where they are as they arent desperately out of line. eg they are selling banana for 15p, inclusive of transport from say Costa Rica - they probably pay 2p per 100 bananas to the growers which is criminal. And thats fair trade

Think my point was that the big 3 UK Supermarkets (Tesco, Sainsburys and Asda) are said to have made 4.3 BILLION GBP profit in the year ending March 2025. At a time of, in everything but name, austerity for many…is that something we find acceptable?
I don't think fish and chips is as bad as you think. Those supermarkets caned it in during covid didn't they.

I dunno on the overall profit, if you break it down to amount per customer i bet it doesn't equate to that much.

We all have a choice though. We can choose to have milk delivered, shop locally at grocery butchers etc. But largely we don't for convenience/cost so we all enable them when we choose them.

We used to always buy our steak from the butchers. It got crazy on price though. We found to buy from the butchers was probably double the cost of say Aldi.

So that's me making my choice as per my above post, so it's my fault really but given a choice of 30 quid for 2 fillets, or 14 quid I'll go 14..

We are getting sausages though from Denby Pottery farm shop Saturday though. Probably double the price but yummy.

I did do an online purchase of steak and few weeks back though, got a big piece of fillet which made 6 8 oz ish steaks and 2 10 oz rumps for 50 quid.

Cut them and froze, had 2 fillet and the rumps and beat the supermarket steak hands down.

But then, in line with your farm shop sausages, there’s sometimes/all too often no comparison between steak - or a joint - from a good butcher and supermarket steak. So I’d prefer to pay thirty quid for quality than 14 quid for something that takes the evening to chew through and has half the flavour.

There definitely sometimes is you are right. I'm very fussy with steak but have worked out where to buy from to get decent

Aston Villa v Maccabi Tel Aviv seems to be a rare example of football throwing politics into the spotlight with politicians falling over themselves to score points off each other.
To be clear, it isn’t the government who have issued the ban. It is a combination of those responsible for ground safety and the local police and yet all the usual subjects are queuing up to hurl the charge of anti semitism at the government/PM.
I imagine, especially now given Starmer’s involvement, that the proposed ban will be rapidly overthrown, as it probably should be. Can’t imagine it being any more challenging for the relevant authorities than Villa v Brum anyway. Sincerely hope not.
