Just watched the Sunderland v Dingles match and well done Sam for letting the first goal go through your legs!
Always said Foster was a different class to you but hey keep it up with the Dingles and see ya next year 😭
He was dreadful for us, just the right player for the custard bowl
Certainly Johnstone could be criticised for some aspects of his game but surely can't deny the number of class saves he pulled off, particularly in the 2020/21 season. You don't win player of the year awards for nothing, even with the club being relegated.
That said, Johnstone was never going to match Foster or other Albion greats. I liked Palmer and agree with others on here that if we had kept him then there were probably several games we would not have conceded last season but our PSR situation likely dictated that move.
With a better defensive back four in front of him, at least Griffiths' confidence has much improved now though as have his performances and he was as important in getting our 3 points yesterday as either Mikey or Isaac.
Whilst you shouldn?t you always make comparisons with others. Foster was class and Johnstone for me was a great shot stopper but awful In commanding his area and kicking out. Palmer was class and whilst Griffiths was not in the same class to his credit he?s greatly improved without players who couldn?t defend like Furlong.
For me the three key positions will always be your keeper - creative midfielder with pace and a clinical scorer.
I played as a goalkeeper albeit at a grass roots level, it?s amazing the confidence you get playing behind a good back four that can defend and know what they are doing, we had that in spades, I remember one season we only conceded 12 goals
Keepers like Johnston make defenders nervous
This is so true Bomber. I remember the old Man U keeper Peter the Dane who marshalled his defence and gave them so much confidence and we know his son became a decent keeper. Griffiths albeit no Palmer has clearly grown in confidence without the awful Furlong and still do NOT rate Campbell in his current position especially with the ball at his feet. A keeper needs to trust those in front of him.
Decent reflex keeper on his day who weirdly lost the flight of the ball from distance on occasion. When the ball flew in from wide areas, especially from set pieces, all bets were off as he had the composure and command of a shaking s hitting dog with the runs.
Hard to believe we made him a millionaire. Can definitely see him rocking up and getting a gig at a Manchester City or an Arsenal etc to top his bank account from the bench like that other s hitting dog Scott Carson who strangely looked quite decent when he came back with Derby.
A completely bang average goalkeeper who we stuck with for too long. I can't believe he is starting games in the premier league.
Palmer and Griffiths are both better than him in my view.
