Any thoughts on changes? For me I would put Campbell and Styles on the bench and then you have Taylor, Gilchrist and Grant to consider. Collyer seemed nervous and Price ( despite the fantastic goal ) has been poor of late. Need to start Mikey and Maja for sure.
I hope Mason does not revert to a defensive and cautious line up again with the likes of Wallace and Heggebo starting. Watford are there for the taking although Ipswich will be tough!
3 wins away from home already this season, compared to 4 all of last season. Defensive is boring to watch but he has turned our fortunes away from home which the last few managers couldnt.
I dont think he will change the side except Heggebo will come in I reckon. Hes a handful and helps us counter.
3 games in a week, the second one will be our usual downfall, expect a few changes, square pegs in round holes, ultra defensive, which game is the one where we have a better chance of 3 points Watford or Ipswich, surely play the best team v Watford then see how the players are for Ipswich, under Mason we could easily lose both games
So negative when we are fourth in the league and got the best away form we have had for years.
I think you hammered the appointment so much, you are now set in your views and will overcompensate for anything that doesnt go perfectly.
Beg to differ Matt as comments are constructive. I was at Boro and had Mason selected a more positive team we would have left with at least a point. The proof of the pudding was when the subs came on who should have started. Bomber made a good point and it was to play the best team v Watford with the clear intent to win and take it from there.
Strange one. Despite some sloppy play at times, all seemed to play well as a team yesterday and so I can't see many changes tbh.
Attack wise, I certainly think that Mikey and Maja should start and Price also had a much better game yesterday and I think it suited him playing alongside Maja so would still start him too. Junior also seemed to create things throughout the game so can see him holding his place although game-management will doubtless see both Heggabo and Grant on at some point (and it's good to have Karlan back)
Mowatt had a good game yesterday and I'm sure he will start in midfield although with the knock Collyer got I can see Molumby starting instead of him. With Bany now getting some PL2 game time it will also be interesting to see what creative options he can to midfield bring once he is fit.
As for the back 4, I have a feeling that Mason won't change this. By all accounts, Campbell had a decent game on Saturday and whilst Gilchrist may be better going forward, Mason obviously prefers him, perhaps because of his defensive qualities? The odd one for me is Styles. Certainly, with Taylor at LB, we looked defensively more solid and, despite Styles playing well for his country in midfield, he has been poor when switched to that position for us. On the other hand, his forward play yesterday certainly contributed to our attacking options. I guess it's whether Mason wants to start off with more attacking intent against Watford or not?
No game is an easy one in the Championship but I just hope we continue to show the attacking intent we did on Saturday and not revert to being over defensive. The win will have given them confidence and whilst we need to be mindful of Watford we need to capitalize on that.
I don?t think rotation is a problem it?s part of the modern game, but it has to be used properly and with common sense. The rotation v Boro and Millwall was an embarrassment, the two games coming up v Watford and Ipswich are both winnable providing the team selection is correct.
Personally I would like to see Saturday?s team play at Watford then see what the options are v Ipswich, both games are winnable but the Watford one would be the one I would be targeting, no point making wholesale changes at Watford then getting beat aka Boro and Millwall then hoping to beat Ipswich.
One thing that irritates me is ?rotation? players in the 60?s and 70?s didn?t have the luxury of rotation or multiple subs and they sometimes played 3 games in a week often on terrible surfaces, players these days are too pampered, teams used to play Christmas Day and Boxing Day and at Easter Good Friday, Saturday and Bank Holiday Monday, these modern day players are supposed to be super fit
Totally agree Bomber. Take Boro - we started with a negative line up and when losing two nil on came the subs who should have started. Take that in reverse - start your best team if possible then when it allows bring on subs like Heggebo to hold the ball up and say Wallace. At Boro ( I was there ) you were always going to lose with that starting line up and all you do is get the home crowd in great voice behind the home team. It?s always much harder too when losing away to come back into the game. Proof of the pudding to is take our central defenders they start every game so why would they be more tired than say your strikers or wingers? Mason just needs to have to the balls to pick the best team and not ponder to players to give them game time ie Wallace. Shocking how a fantastic youngster like Bostock was not even on the bench yesterday and I would bet he would do a better job than Wallace as did Fellows week in week out. Presume now Grant?s back Wallace won?t get a look in but I can see Mikey being rotated to accommodate who for me is a game changer!
