On one side we have the super environmentalists who would crash every economy in every country with their crackpot policies and on the other we have many that would set the world on fire just as long as they made a few quid .

It's the same with immigration , the progressives would open the borders to anyone in a second whilst their opponents would sink every dinghy in the channel given half the chance .

In the middle of all of this are politicians who arent even remotely qualified to solve the major issues of the day , almost the entire front bench of the government haven't any experience of running a business what so ever .

Don't even get me started on the EU .

The only solution I have if you can call it that is that it will be the people with real brains and business acumen who will solve climate change by invention and that invention will be delivered to the market at a price we can all afford .

Failing that which isn't really an option but none the less , Europe will regulate itself in to economic armageddon whilst the US and Chinese laugh all the way to the bank .

It looks like we aren't so far apart then - if the position is that

    1. We have to significantly reduce UK emissions as a contribution to lowering of overall global emissions to try and keep global temp under 1.5% of pre industrial levels BUT

    2. Politicians and industry leaders have to work together to find as close a balance as possible to do the above, whilst at the same time finding ways of remaining competitive

Then were pretty much saying the same thing. The fine detail is where you draw the terms of the balance. I'm aware that there are a lot of innovation and initiatives going on in response to the government (Tories and Labour) programmes of the last few years and I personally am quite proud of the achievements and progress made here. It's such a fast moving picture. But there is no easy or cheap path to it - we know that in the mid to long term there will be huge savings across industries who will benefit from green infrastructures vs remaining locked to fossil fuels but it will you are right, come at a lot of transitional cost. The extent of this is always going to be a negotiation between elected leaders and heads of industry (who of course will holler loud and scare monger themselves to get the best deal).

In the meantime, we also have to continue to develop relationships with the big polluting nations, which (it won't be a popular thing to say on here) are already underway such as discussed here in relation to China:

Yeah, I see a lot outpouring trust in China.

I'm thinking of going out and robbing 4 banks. I'm going to give back the proceeds from 1 bank back. Does than now make me the good guy?

Here's a bit more evidence of the integrity and honesty of the upstanding people controlling BBC output. Although those who (understandably) fell for the psy-op might not be terribly impressed...

Sheesh howdy. Got to give you credit for effort. Although not for relevance. I've already said I have many issues with the Chinese government and if you want to start a thread defending their espionage record, I'd be happy to post this link to challenge you. But sorry, it doesn't in any way relate to the factual information I've posted about green developments made by the Chinese in the last 2 years. If it's so clearly untrue, why not just post evidence that shows it to be untrue? Be much easier surely?

You seem to be very smug about the viewers who fell for this. I looked up some info on it and found:

    https://www.reuters.com/article/fact...rce=perplexity

    https://apnews.com/article/fact-chec...rce=perplexity

    https://fullfact.org/online/bbc-covi...rce=perplexity

Sorry but it does look a little bit like you're smugly judging others for being gullible whilst falling for misinformation?!

This is quite old news, has something happened that sheds new light on this since reuters etc showed it to be genuine?

No smugness from me, raging. Pure, unbridled anger at the devious b*stards who pulled this stunt off, yes, guilty as charged.

If you choose to accept the word of Reuters, The Associated Press and Full Fact, there is, simply, no hope for you.

    Love it!

You stick with the BBC, chief - they're 100% reliable. At least according to you and BBC Verify...

This is all complete bollax. One person quotes their facts off the internet, but discrediting everyone else's fact's off the same internet......

........if you believe the world's going to end soon, then get on with it. If you think it's not then still get on with it.

The only thing i believe is that when we get to zero emissions( never) it won't make any difference, apart to peoples bank balances. the rest of the world won't care and carry on regardless.
......P.S. have any of the Maldives sunk yet......asking for a friend....?

This 'story' was not reported as news by anybody, not one other news source. It was simply a meme, spread on social media like wildfire amongst anti-vaxers and anyone with anti-BBC agenda. It was then investigated and fact checked by several actual news agencies (including Reuters, one of the most respected for impartial reporting) and found to be completely false - the poor bloke is an ICT specialist! The hospital confirmed the covid diagnosis.

It. Was. Pure. False. News. You as ever shared widely without any effort to check, including on a bloody footy site 4 years later! Accusing others of gullibility!!

    Jaw dropping.
