SBRed Match Thoughts Barnsley v Lincoln City

We really need a good win to lift the gloom tonight , the natives are getting restless and the HC is under pressure and there's a real bad vibe running through the club right now .

Problem is we are up against high flying Lincoln and what's more they seem to have our number so it looks a difficult evening ahead .

I'd say an early goal would help but that doesn't seem to work these days either but we most definitely don't want to be conceding one that's for sure .

With the fans getting restless and the transfer window opening soon this could be a pivotal game tonight for Hourihane , a 3-0 defeat and an awful performance might tip the powers that be over the edge with the boos ringing out in an ever decreasing actual attendance .

Let's hope Hourihane catches a break tonight .

I am afraid I will be going tonight with that gut feeling that it will not end well tonight , play like we did on saturday for the first 30 minutes and you think we can beat anyone but if you play like we did for the last hour then its doom and gloom, I keep banging the drum but we have to go to basics when defending , stop the crosses , attack the headers , clear the lines and no playing out from the back , do not take any risks and if the ball has to go in row z then so be it. I am hoping that Watson plays at right back and Philips and Ferrugia are sat in the seats next to me , I am also hoping that Jalo is back at least on the bench to offer an alternative for Conor instead of the predictable changes but as I said earlier I do not expect anything from the game tonight.

Well pretty spot on Shads! Watson R/B, Jalo, Phillips and Farrugia on the bench.
1-0 down at half time due to p1ss poor defending AGAIN! Man left unmarked from a free kick for a free header!
They are camping out at the back now, so will just hit us on the break to score another 1 or 2.
Passing is atrocious and we continue to try and be Man City playing out from the back, inviting them on for us to make mistakes!
Sick of Yoganathan now me? Trots around getting caught with the ball, his tackling is non existent!

We are heading to that place called " back him or sack him " with the powers that be and it's not entirely certain which one it will be , it may not be either , they may not back or sack him which isn't entirely beyond the realms of possibility .

I do think Neerav needs to come out and publicly support Hourihane if they intend sticking with him and put a marker down because if they don't they are going to end up caving in to certain fans and it could get nasty down there .

Communication isn't their great strength to say the least but something needs to be done because radio silence won't wash .

I was hoping Conor would be able to turn it around, I don't agree with sacking managers mid season, BUT......
I just can't see him turning this around at all, it's the same excuses every game, things like we will look at it and work on training pitch has been excellent!
Before we end up dropping into the bottom 4 maybe a change is needed with the hope of a manager bounce?
Conor is insisting on this play out from the back, but the get it to Cleary and nobody else is getting on my nerves!

Thing is Perky it was their decision to hire a rookie HC and what's more his trial period last season wasn't exactly inspiring but they hired him anyway , so they need to own this and back their judgement and at least give him the transfer window and the rest of the season .

Personally I'm not looking at 6th place as the measuring stick , the measuring stick is improvement and a better team that started the season with some hope for next season that we can kick on .

I'm not suggesting at this moment in time Hourihane is the real deal , to be honest I dont know but I do think expectations need to be measured from a number of fans and I'm far from convinced another HC would make any greater impact , Darrell Clarke was experienced but he couldn't improve on Collins .

Who could we attract ? , Darren Moore possibly but would he be an upgrade ?

Personally i think we need to back Hourihane , not because I think he's all that but just to at least give him a real go at this .

I know what your saying mate, I really do! But I think he's so intent on the way he wants us to play, with players that simply cannot play that way, by that I mean the defence playing out from the back and the midfield defending without the ball.
I don't think there is enough coin in the bank to get the players he needs in this window. I'm like you a mid table finish to build on for next season, but I believe sticking with him may be a rebuild to get back into League One!
I think he hasn't got the experience needed to get this team back on track, he and the staff are not motivating them enough to carry out his game plan!
Look at Lincoln tonight? We must have had 15 shots and they blocked the lot through sheer dogedness and threw themselves in front of everything, there is no motivation in this team to do that!
Do you not think big Mick would come? He went to Blackpool FFS!

To be honest I thought it went as I expected, Lincoln are a complete team and unit who attack as one and defend as one and when quality was needed they provided it with their second goal being the catalyst , having said all that I didn"t think we were all that bad last night , we duly gave them their first goal with once again rank bad defending but we did fight back and I have not seen it back but from where I was sat we should have been given a stone wall penalty thus giving us a route and momentum back in to the game but alas the ref did not give it, but again after half time we rallied and Phillips should have scored but failed and Lincoln were then content to defend with the odd counter and then out of the blue they scored a worldy and you just have to accept that there was not a lot you can do about that but overall it was another poor night and a poor result. I personally think it would be madness to sack Coner with the window 2 days away, he needs to be backed but of course I would not rule out anything these owners do , the natives are getting restless so it could be " lets deflect rhe blame time " , we will see.
