I get the feeling that a lot of fans are beginning to look too far ahead on this.

I was chatting to someone around the ladies team earlier in the season and Phil Smith’s name was mentioned about him trying to take control of that.

He has I believe taken up a roll at Rotherham Titans in a similar position to the one he has with Rotherham United.

There are some that have compared the Rotherham fans as being taken in by the rhetoric akin to North Korea believe or not and he’s has a podcast covering us as a club.

There is a lot of speculation but we really don’t know what is going to happen.

I know that he has been about the corridors of the NYS for a while and has been assessing the club from top to bottom.

A man with his business track record should be made very welcome to be part of our club. If he can help turn this period of negativity into a positive from within the club then it has to be for the better.

Paul Davis has come in for criticism and so have the sales team selling sponsorship. If he can change the way that they are able to generate money and positivity from the inside then we should give them a bit of breathing space.

For me it is as exciting as when the NYS was proposed. Many disbelieved but TS made it happen. Has he pulled another great move for the benefit of us all?

    Only time will tell!

It is very difficult to assess. My hope it isn’t a DOF moment.

Look it has been a good week for the club and I am sure Phil Smith will add something.

However I am expecting a bit more from him. His masterplan for the future was a bit basic to say the least. Apparently we invest emotionally by encouraging the team who respond by entertaining us and giving us 100%, we then buy more pies and beer

Absolute respect for Phil and his achievements, ability, obvious presence and passion, but for the club to embark (pun intended) on a journey to consolidate as a regular tier two side over the next 20 or 30 years, it needs to understand its younger fans.

Whether people like it or not, younger generations live markedly different lifestyles and can earn and spend very differently to those just a handful of years older. People can be critical of them for living in the 'instant gratification' mindset, so why not reverse that logic on older generations and accept that if we put instant success (the SE model) to one side and think what a club will look like in 2046 in order to attract a good following. I'm sure some on here will already know that pie and pint isn't as appealing to many youngsters, and it doesn't end there.

Engage with younger fans in a meaningful way. Many of us won't be here/in good enough health to be doing 46 games a season for the 20-30 years he talks about.
Agreed. Shadow board is a great idea.

Someone else onboard from the town, who clearly has the club in his heart, which I know some people hate(for some reason),but for a club like ours is a positive.
Seems a clever bloke who has had a very successful career, and now wants to help us to get better, what`s not to like ?
No surprise really....he`s from Kimmy !

    The criticism starts already.
You are overlooking something. Whatever he is here for and any remit he has, they are unlikely to share it. We should not be expecting a bit more as you put it, or anything else. Best thing we can do is listen and observe.

I assume you mean Paul Douglas?

I share the rest of your sentiments. Watch, keep an open mind. Best thing. Being over optimistic, or the opposite at this time is way too early regardless.

Of course he is not going to give every detail. But he had an opportunity to deliver a couple of sentences to get us excited and he came out with something that a 16 year old on a Business Studies course could have produced.

No doubting his ability. He is a success but he is an elderly person. The pie and a pint comment worried me. We have to offer something more than the cloth cap and whippet cliches.

Younger people are more health conscious and many dont drink.

We need to throw the net wider if we are to survive

What a load of contradictory old tripe!
You state younger people are more health conscious but infer that a 16 year old on a business studies course would come out with a pie and pint type comment???

Give him time to do what he needs to do and when he presents a full report, then comment.

Come off it. It was basic, very basic and you know it.

I think he will be an assett but please we do need sone youth. Phil Smith is young but only in comparison to Tony Stewart.

If the town is to broaden its outlook it needs more than the 'Hovis' mentality.
