    The Travis/Adams Conundrum

Masses of discussion on social media about the wisdom of 'upgrading' from Adams to Travis, everyone else is having a say so we might as well too. Be nice if we could just offer our opinion and not get in a spat like the rest of the internet is but whatever

My own opinion has changed, but is not straightforward. I now think, based on recent performances, that we are a better team without Ebou and with Clark, but a worse team without Ebou and with Travis. I'll admit I was on Diaz' case earlier in the season and he has now come good (or at least better), but I don't get the Travis thing at the mo and we are near the point in the season where we may/do need a bit of an enforcer, which Travis doesn't appear to be

    Anyone?

I think we missed him when he was out. Adams doing very well at Pompey. Early to say hes been in and out from injury abd suspension.

Adams was no longer the Ebou we all liked. That simple. JE changed tactics.formation and that meant Ebou's weaknesses were more prominent than his strengths as we no longer played to those strengths.

I was critical of BBD but he has been better of late. I won't criticise his most recent performance as he was no worse than the rest. I would, however, consider, now Morris is fit again, going Brewster, Morris, Aggy as the front 3. In the hole behind them I'd play Clark rather than Szmodics. Fraulo alongside Ozoh rather than Travis who, IMO, has had one good game since joining us. He worries me, giving away way too many free kicks, permanently looking like he's the blink of an eye off a card, tackles poorly and doesn't really offer much and I really don't like his 10(?) cards in 16 appearances.

Travis is the better passer/distributor imo and on every other count Adams wins.
Seemed to be a better, more inspirational leader, weighed in with more goals, showed greater commitment, more mobile and although they both pick up too many cards, Adams’ seemed to be more out of necessity/reputation and less of the petulant Travis variety.
Adams, despite the frustrating suspensions, also seemed to be available for selection far more often.
JE has forgotten more about football than most of us have ever known and I’ll invariably trust his judgement, but on the evidence to date there’s a reason why Ebou was a favourite (is again at Fratton) and Travis really isn’t.

Agree rA, Adams will be long remembered for his contribution whilst here. RP sums up Travis to date in his last sentence. Let's hope JE is right about him as the season progresses but signs aren't good imo.

Trav looked decent going forward yesterday, still less than average defensively, IMO.

I feel like he is a player that we need to upgrade, or use better. Reminds me a bit of Savage, was much better under Clough than Jewell when played in a better role. Only concerning thing is that he's JE's man, so should know how to get the best out of him.
Maybe he's good in the dressing room, but has been poor on the field
