    Var

Premier League fans deliver damning verdict on VAR. 75% of 7,946 fans polled by the Football Supporters? Association ?didn?t support the use of VAR?. Too long, too forensic, too much of a joy killer, fans say. Findings shared with Premier League and PGMO.

92% of fans surveyed ?agreed? that ?VAR has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations? (82% of them ?strongly agreed?).

85% of match-going fans ?strongly disagreed? with the notion that ?VAR makes watching football more enjoyable?. And 83% of those watching on TV.

85% of match-going fans ?strongly disagreed? that ?VAR decisions are generally resolved in a reasonable amount of time?. Echoed by 83% of those watching on TV.

Only 18% agreed that ?VAR has improved the overall accuracy of refereeing decisions?.

72% are ?concerned about the expansion of VAR beyond its current remit?.

79% ?strongly disagreed? with the suggestion ?that the match-going experience is better with VAR?.

67% ?strongly agreed? that they preferred ?watching games that are played without VAR to games with VAR?.

    84% ?strongly support? goal-line technology.

34% ?strongly opposed? to the idea of a challenge system (two per game per team).

?These findings back up the FSA's previous survey in 2021, where fans expressed misgivings about the introduction of VAR,? says Thomas Concannon, @WeAreTheFSAPremier League network manager.
?The vast majority are reporting the same concerns five years on - the loss of spontaneity when celebrating goals, and an overall worsening of the match-going experience. We have shared the survey results with the Premier League and PGMO, and look forward to discussing its findings with them.? Fans surveyed of all PL clubs and all ages (Under-18 to 65+).

    ----------

    No surprises there at all.

Most of us can see VAR is often used to get the result that is wanted for certain teams.

Whether VAR is biased is irrelevant for me.
    It totally destroys the game.
"Oh WOW what a brilliant goal - what a strike, we've won!!!!"
"Oh no, wait a minute. It's being reviewed"
"Ah, from two angles, it looks like a foul"
"But from another angle it looks OK"
"No wonder they're taking so long - its not really obvious"
"Ah, there's a glitch with the video system now"
"Seems the earlier video was out of sync"
"Oh, well, never mind. Tune in again tomorrow to find out who VAR decided was the winning team"

It's complete *******s. People make mistakes. Strikers miss sitters. Goalies make blunders. All part of the game. So should refs and linesmen getting it wrong be part of the game. Keep the spontaneity for God's sake. Otherwise, it isn't the same sport to watch.

Have they ditched the idea that VAR is to rectify CLEAR AND OBVIOUS mistakes? If not, that has been completely forgotten.
If you need to get the slide rule out and measure if someone?s nose is off side then just f*ck off. If its not a clear offside from one video replay (10 seconds) then go with the onfield decision.
The destruction of the goal celebration is the real killer.
I dont think var should be banned but it needs a big overhaul so as to only rectify big mistakes that were missed. It should play a much smaller role in the matches.
If var cant ?decide? in 10-15 seconds then it wasnt a clear and obvious mistake and so go with the refs decision.

There are definitely good elements to it but this micro-managing of games is absolutely ruining football.

I don't doubt for a second that there's a bias in favour of the big 6/heritage clubs/cartel and this is their new tool to allow them to control the narrative.

Precisely what VAR was supposed to be, a safety net for shocking decisions. CLEAN & OBVIOUS mistakes made by the referee.

It was never supposed to 'Re-REF' the match.

The incompetence of those charged to adjudicate the matches in remove at Stockley Park, lack of consistency due to 'interpretation' leads to clear bias for the cartel clubs & major discrepancies in standards across the 38 game season.

In it's current guise it is not fit for purpose and does a disservice to the game.

    We need VAR
We all saw what will happen without it

    But yes,
Clear and obvious error by the referee - if it takes a panel 5 minutes to decide, it?s clearly not clear and obvious

    Let the game flow.

I really like the idea of a manager having 2 ?reviews? a match, let them be the ones to say if they think the referee missed something, and even say what they saw 🤷🏻*♂️

I like semi automated offsides but the rules need to change, does being a nose hair ahead of the last man give you that much of an advantage?

How about if the part of the body that they touch the ball with first is onside, then they are onside?

The delight in football is scoring a goal, yet the powers that be seem to want to find any excuse to disallow a goal rather than let one stand.

Defenders throwing themselves to the ground at the slightest touch rather than even challenge a corner coming in - if it is a striker doing that, they give away a free kick - so, if it doesn?t result in a goal, free kick from where the ball was delivered from, essentially a second chance at a corner or a cross
