Maybe the only reason for the likes of Jet2 or Easyjet moving there was the better slots and cheaper fees. The passengers would still be from the same catchment area so maybe not worth it?

After a protest march against the closure of the airport at the weekend.

Don Valley Conservative MP Nick Fletcher, will lead a Parliamentary debate tonight,
in the House of Commons, from around 10pm, regarding the closure.

We flew in to Doncaster airport this morning from Turkey, flying with Tui, on landing
the head stewardess made a announcement thanking passengers for using Tui, &
said after 17 years Tui using the airport, flights were coming to a end.

Talking to immigration officer later at passport control, he said its not done & dusted,
so I take it he must have known about the debate tonight.

ELK, don’t forget that Doncaster council can, if it’s the last straw, block any sale by Peel.

Don’t know the full details on this, where’s John2 when you need him to Google it for us? It’s getting political John so help us find the ‘full’ details if you can pal.

Here’s a bit of cut and paste that I found interesting

“Jet2 plc is pleased to announce that to meet the future anticipated growth of its Leisure Travel business and to refresh its existing aircraft fleet, the Company has entered into an agreement with Airbus to purchase 35 new firm ordered Airbus A320 neo aircraft with the ability for this to extend to up to 71 aircraft.

The firm ordered aircraft deliveries stretch over three years until 2031 and at base price represent a total value of approximately $3.9 billion, with a total transaction value for up to 71 aircraft of approximately $8.0 billion, though the Company has negotiated significant discounts from the base price.

This order, which is in addition to the A321 neo aircraft orders announced in 2021, means Jet2 now has a total of 98 firm ordered aircraft, which could eventually extend to up to 146 aircraft”

Well some of those new aircraft will replace their ageing Boeing fleet, others as they say will be an expansion of their business.

But where will they expand to?

Their current “ home base” of Leeds Bradford is pretty much up to capacity and the site itself has expansion issues following recent nimby objections.

So will Jet2 put some of their fleet in Robin Hood?

Added benefit of being a poke in the eye for their rival TUI

A lot of ifs and maybe’s but you never know

On what basis could the council block a sale?

Even if it has the power, it's actions have to be rationale and reasonable failing which they can be challenged by way of Judicial Review.

    Found it myself.

Mayor says Doncaster Sheffield Airport site could be bought without owner's consent
The mayor of Doncaster said a compulsory purchase order could be used to buy the Doncaster Sheffield Airport site without the owner's consent.

What do you make of this statement?

Jet2 are operating an increasing number of flights from Birmingham. I would imagine that they have acquired some of the old Flybe slots.
