Not sure of we have a post on this so apologies of we do.
Way back in the 70s and 80s their seemed to be strikes going off all over the country. I was a young lad then so tbh I didn't take note of why and what for.
Fast forward to this year and again it seems like everyone one and every organisation/union is going on strike.
Do people outside of these sectors really care or is it disrupting their lives
For folk on here who have strikes in the past does it really make a difference.
Do people feel sorry for the strikers who are asking for a pay rise or do they think they are well paid enough,
I've got mixed feelings about the situation. Some professional are earning 40-50k and can't manage whilst others are on 25k and really struggling. I really don't know what the answer should be..
postal strikes.
I was talking to my posty last week. He mentioned himself and several of his colleagues in the halfway branch are happy with the pay they get. It's the conditions they are not happy with.
He said give or take it's around £14 per hour. A bit more when they do flyers/parcels. They want to change the working hours They want them to do more hours in the winter (pre Xmas when they are busy) and less in the summer. With a 4.8% pay rise.
nurses strikes.
In late 2020/2021 I sold a house to a nurse and her husband. Both NHS workers She worked on the intensive care ward and he worked in admin.
They sold their house for 165k and bought mine for 300k. It's a big jump for a young couple and she basically said covid has made it possible for them to purchase a property of that price.
Her wage had almost doubled due to overtime and bonus the nhs were throwing loads of cash at nurses.
Whilst it's not a job I could do and admire the work they do, I almost felt she was bragging about making all the money from people's suffering.
Nurse unions were asking for over 19% payrise.
