Stall agreeing with David Jackson that top spot looks like it's gone.

Never say never , but it may well have.

Well done Grimbo, a thoroughly deserved victory. They battered us for 60 mins and all we did was constantly give them the ball back. Nowhere good enuff from Notts, to say it was a match dedicated to him, that was a disgrace to Colin's memory.

We will miss out on the playoffs and as we have so many times in the past, we'll have to start again from scratch in the close season.

Compared to the teams widening the gap ahead of us, we have no where near enough depth, quality and most worrying of all passion for the club.

Burchnall, the owners and the players have to take the blame for our imminent failure this season. Recently Burchnall seems to have lost the plot honestly. His team selections evidently don't work; yet he continues with them - picking players who are either nowhere near good enough or can't be bothered i.e Brunt. Furthermore, rather than sort the problems that are seemingly sprawling throughout the club out, Burchnall seems to get defensive at the mere mention of them; almost like he's attempting to ignore them and hope they'll go away.

The owners, while they are a vast improvement on Hardy, haven't invested in the playing squad anywhere near enough to be repeatedly competitive. I understand that the club is in a poor financial position already, but surely that financial position is just going to worsen if we become stuck in this league like we seek to be.

Finally the players are not pulling their weight anymore, and worryingly im not sure why. The goals have dried up, the defence is leaking more and more and on todays result, we obviously cannot rely on home games, or games in hand to pick up points anymore.

I said after the Bromley game that if we don't beat Grimsby the season is finished and I'm even more certain of that now than I was then. But then again, at least being the new Wrexham and staying down here for a few decades like we're going to will bring us a little notoriety.

Which players are ‘no where near good enough’?

Agree…and Slocombe too. Doesn’t send out a good message when you play well and get dropped anyway for a managers favourite. Brunt has done absolutely nothing since he’s arrived. Baffling.

The lack of character and desire these last few games is worrying. IB doesn’t seem to be able to motivate the players or display an effective plan B (though at times he has managed to get plan A working very well).

We don’t look like a bonded team at the minute, fans will certainly start turning if we don’t start looking interested, or at least together.

Yes, the way I see it......Recruitment may be a little too fond of its radar lists and identified targets. Brunt would only be interesting for us if he was ever released - not as a loanee when we already have his role covered. They should also prioritise that type of recruitment in the closed season and look at more immediate team needs during.

IB has shown he has a ruthless side in acting on DKE, JOB, Slocs and now Vincent (this last one for sure looking very wrong) Fine, but recruitment and team management needs to mix in a generous dollop of emotional intelligence as well - forging a team spirit, creating a band of brothers, is a very important factor to success.
Tough decisions like Richardson for DKE are necessary. Others, that might not appear to be fair to the team, can go the opposite way I guess.

Owners will need to have a rethink on their philosophy in the Summer if we are stuck in the NL again as it clearly isn't working in the NL. Higher up the pyramid maybe but not the NL

You’re right, but we can’t write this season off just yet. We are clearly incapable of sustaining any kind of form, which means even the top 3 will be hard again. We need to turn up on Tuesday and start grinding out some results, before the season gets away from us.

We do appear to lack character when we’re up against it, though. Maybe that’s a case of having too many “nice” players - Brunt being the latest - and we need a better mix of silk and steel. Also sounds like it’s time to bench a few and shake things up a little.

There is never any excuse for being outfought, but it does sound like Hurst won the tactical battle today as well.
