Out wide on the wing though. And if they could still kick a ball it still grabbed the attention of a defender.

Or you could finish an FA Cup Final at Wembley with 10 men if someone went off with a broken leg.

Or leave them on the pitch in goal with a broken neck!

We not leave ourselves with just two strikers.
I didn't say we should, just saying players can go out to the national league at any time (other than their deadline of march/April)

Them were the days when men were men. And goalkeepers were fair game for the likes of Nat Lofthouse.

One of the greatest goalkeeping displays I've seen was Bert Trautment keeping an eager Notts side at bay in 1962, though possibly matched by Steve Cherry approx 30 years later. We seen to be drawn beyond statistical odds v Man C in the FA Cup.

I was at that FA Cup tie v Man City in February 1962 and the tie 30 years later.
I can't remember much about Trautman's performance but recall City winning the game 1-0 with a 25 yarder rocket from Neil Young.
The match was in doubt because of heavy snowfall and the game only went ahead because of braziers on the pitch and volunteer fans clearing the snow off the pitch on the morning of the match. Huge balls of snow lined the touchline.
Steve Cherry was awesome in the 1992 tie, clearly MOM and making a fine double save in the dying moments of the game.

With regards to substitutes introduced in the 1965/66 season , most people will recall Keith Peacock of Charlton Athletic being the first ever FL substitute.
He replaced injured GK , Mike Rose after 5 minutes play. I spoke to former Notts GK, Mike Rose at the Colchester home game last season who told me he was KO'd in an aerial challenge.

Notts were apparently the last of the 92 clubs to field a substitute in February 1966.
