We were misguided into believing that diesel cars were clean and safe some time back by the EU and strongly supported by Euro friendly Blair in this country.The latest reports suggest that diesel is bad for the environment and throughout Europe there is panic in the car industry because sales are slumping.

This is a memo from Keith Joseph to Thatcher in 1980 - “The deal [is] tangible evidence of the benefits to the UK of membership of the European Community; Nissan [has] chosen the United Kingdom because it [gives] them access to the whole European market. If we were outside the community, it is very unlikely that Nissan would have given the United Kingdom serious consideration as a base for this substantial investment.”
