I can’t be arsed to go through the whole of history. But every time we lose to a so called smaller side it’s the worst loss ever. There have definitely been worse defeats than today. Mainly in the cup, but is that not normally the case for most sides worst losses?
The irony with all of this, is that some folk sound as arrogant as those across the Trent that they despise. We are massive. Our history. We have better resources blah blah blah. We lost because we weren’t clinical, Dorking were. We made mistakes, they made less.
Today was a massive off day, but one we can recover from and one we weren’t massively punished for by our rivals.

What non league side did we lose to in the cup at home after the owners had just appointed their messiah Burchnall?

Forget the cups, what league defeats have we suffered that were worse than today?

Here’s a contender, though I have to confess I don’t know much about it.

In 1957/8, Notts were relegated from Division 2, finishing in 21st place. The bottom 4 were Swansea 31 points, Lincoln 31, Notts 30, Doncaster 27. (It was 2 up, 2 down in those days.)

On 19 April, we played match no. 40 (of 42) at home to Doncaster, the bottom club, who had not won an away game all season. On the face of it (without knowing what the league table looked like that morning), this must’ve seemed like a golden chance of avoiding relegation. The result? Notts 0 Doncaster 5. Although Notts took 3 points from the remaining 2 games, we went down. It might be fair to say that relegation was snatched from the jaws of safety

This was at the time that the balance of power in Nottingham football was changing (1957 - Forest promoted to Div 1, 1958 - Notts relegated to Div 3, 1959 - Notts relegated to Div 4 and Forest cup winners).

Did that defeat change our history? Like I said, I don’t know much about it (I was only 5 and didn’t go to a match until a few years later, so I’d be interested to hear from anyone who knows more details, especially anyone who wa there.

It's an embarrassing result and not good enough in either boxes as was the case last season but I don't think it deserves quite the reaction from some posters. I think that's down to losing to a club we never even thought we'd be playing nevermind losing but we're on the tight track under LW and certainly think he'll be able to sort this out. Normally I'd have been really mad at this result but this season just feels like we're going to be there or there abouts near the top. I'm not going into meltdown mode.........yet ha ha.

Like I say personal insults but hey it's your first season on here so not sure you know about my reaction.

Losing to a part time club has to make it a contender for the worst league result ever, but it depends what Dorking do from here. We've yet to lose to a side that's been relegated from this level (or finished in the bottom 4 when relegation was cancelled).

So you are happy to losing in that manner then?

We are there or thereabouts in line with our budget. In that sense we're not even underperforming.

Like others, I didn’t see this result coming. Missing two centre halves doesn’t help and we are clearly struggling for numbers if we have to stick a keeper on the bench.

Frustrating thing is that we would have gone top with a win today, but gifting the opposition goals and missing chances is never a winning combination.

We need to go on another winning streak now and just make sure today becomes a freak result. Hopefully have more players back next week for what looks like a tough test at York.
