I don't think I've ever heard Mark Stallard so mortified by what he was witnessing, as passes went uncontrolled, out of play or straight to the opposition, and we were constantly second to the ball or losing 50-50s. It really was a horror show.

If Ardley's still in charge tomorrow (and it looks like he will be), I hope the press don't hold back with their questions - specifically about why the midfield has been so dire yet untouchable all year and why we're consistently being outplayed by lower-table sides.

Here's my biggest charge against Ardley: When did he outsmart another manager? The last two home games, we've had to change our formation because the opposition have outplayed us from the start. I don't know if they're changing their tactics/formation specifically because they're playing us, but we haven't had any answers to being pressed (except to go even deeper). We've had two seasons to find an answer, yet the team are still none the wiser for a solution.
Even though I’ve been pro Ardley which is seriously on the wain at the moment one of my biggest criticisms in the relegation season was over thinking what the opponents bring to the party and especially this season if you are a team in the top 6 your style of play / formation should on the whole stay the same as the quality should shine through. I wasn’t a massive critic of us playing possession football as I think technically even at this level it can be done but when confidence and nerves come in it’s a horror show and the issue is now we haven’t the players for a plan B.

Mansfield (Steve Evans), 2 seasons ago is the one and only instance I can remember. Any more, anyone?

None that I can remember. Thoroughly outflanked by Simon Weaver at Wembley.

Another thing is we’ve had two against the odds, backs against the wall, should be season defining victories; Chesterfield away and Daggers at home. In other more successful seasons, we’d have gone on from those and put some decent performances and results in. This season, not so much, we’ve miserably failed to build on them.

It’s like the good results are merely flukes of which Ardley has no idea how to recreate.

Pretty basic stuff, nothing to do with tactics.

Worst display I have ever seen I think (since 1967). Truly shocking considering the standard of opposition. It may have got a bit better in the 2nd half but we didn't deserve anything at al form the game.

We simply cannot cope with a high press
‘Didn’t deserve anything from the game’ that’s been applicable in so many performances this season. Elite said on another thread, we have more points than our performances deserve or words to that effect. This is absolutely true.

That was the big difference to me, and tbh it's a huge worrying difference.

The next game will tell us a lot.

In the cold light of day, waking up after the game this morning, I've had time to think.

I think we will be stuck with Ardley until the end of the season. I'm thinking this because a new manager will not have time to come in and implement ideas due to the crazy schedule that we have. Thoughts?

If they're hesitant and give him the chance to explain, he will explain....and he'll be pretty good at that.
Like Doyle's name on the team sheet, he'll be like a dog with a bone (he is committed after all).
When Hardy sacked Kewell he said 'I hated to take it way from him' but it didn't stop him!

You're right though, while we're still in touching distance, they'll calculate based on this season's chances and ask 'do we have more chance this season with him or without him?'

Another unknown is how much of a manager Plan B they have. Anyone's guess.

I think he will stay for a few reasons he is likely to keep us around the play off places and we dont want to pay him off.

He is guilty of wasting money here I mean a month ago he signs Effiong gives him a few games decides he is no good and now gets a young lad from Bradford PA.

He brings in all these new players but very few of them are in CM but he loves signing full backs he must have signed 6-7 this season already.

I would get rid of him as he is a deadbeat but I accept he will last the season and nobody can then say he has had no time to deliver.

    Indeed Elite!

I'm pretty sure we will keep hold of him, predominantly because of the game schedule.

I don't think there's a manager in his right mind who would look at our schedule and believe that they can begin to stamp their authority and implement their ideas properly in the next 5 games or so. Mostly, there will be one or two days of training in between matches. Sunday and Wednesday will be recovery days, then Monday and Thursday will be full training. No proper training on Tuesday as it's a match day, especially if we are away. Maybe light training on a Friday before Saturday's game? There's just not enough time for somebody and it's fairly impossible to make an impact quickly.

Ironic that Ardley has whinged about the schedule, as it might end up being his saving grace?
