Away from the rumour and innuendo. Does whether RR and Cal start together depend to some /large degree on the opposition and whether we home or away? Or shouldn't it matter due to the talent both have?
You can put things in BOLD TYPE all you like but it doesn'change my differing opinion. Sir Alex and Manchester United were renowned for keeping things in-house and not in the press. He also protected his players at almost every opportunity, although his autobiography suggest in the dressing room away from the fans his approach was very different.
I believe Sir Alex would let a fringe player at the time who wasn't starting play international teams. Managers tend to stop key and first team players from joining England games for friendlies not for players not starting.
I guess "curious" is one word for it but if you looked outside of NCM you would have seen far stronger than "curious" when it came to the situation that the vast majority was simply guessing what was happening.
Burchnall attempted to keep it under wraps. How successfully is up for debate. If true, he didn't want to state openly that the player had done wrong and wouldn't be wrong for the foreseeable future. IMO he chose the much better option even if it upset some of gossip girls and boys on Facebook, Twitter et al.

If and its a big IF.. if cal has been a naughty boy and IB is showing him who's the boss than hats off to him, and long may it continue..It shows hes got some balls to bring your supposedly star players into line.!
Agree with that. I'm not sure there's much of an 'IF' about it as even Charlie intimated on Friday's commentary that something had gone off.
A valuable lesson for a young footballer, particularly in these days of silly pay and 'celebrity' status, even at our lowly level.
You really didn't need to be Lt. Columbo to work out that something went off, and the non-selection in the matchday squad was the punishment.
People just got a little upset that IB didn't say that when asked by those hard-nosed local journos. Naughty Ian, keeping things in-house at the club and not telling the fans the whole story. The cesspit needs to know.
I agree with BFP on the general point. IMO clubs shouldn't play games when it comes to the availability of players and communicating this to fans....if unavailable, clubs should give a basic reason why, 'injury' (and what that is - roughly) 'illness' 'personal issues' 'disciplinary' etc. (and that's enough, the exact details can be kept internal and may be private anyway) beyond that they're just 'not selected' - and better not cook up a reason if that's all it is. Just the honest truth without any news management, please.
On this specific case, Cal was ill/injured (declared) and later just not selected (also stated up front). There might not have been any other reason for him not being in squads apart from that? If so, any fall-out was by the by...
Anyway, water in a teacup and storm under the bridge now. He's back, he's scoring and we can move on.
