Desperate for what?
If you make wholly one sided and logically flawed arguments, you can't expect not to be picked up on them. Getting all waspish about it doesn't help your cause at all.
I'm sorry for upsetting you. I always thought that you were able to handle debate.
As I said, I'm sorry that I have upset you.
Miller Bill. Had a similar experience visiting my son-in-law 's family in central Spain where youth unemployment is around 55% I was told. And the common denominator in all this? The stinkingly capitalist EU !
Bill and MT – I’m not challenging you on this as such. And I’m sure that you’ll be pleased to know that I am not renowned for my sympathy to “stinking capitalism”. But what is the process that the EU imposes on these countries, what legislation or laws are imposed by the EU, that cause these shocking statistics?
I always thought that the government of a country was responsible for its positive or negative economic and social conditions. How is the EU superimposing over and above the Italian and Spanish governments to cause these outcomes?
Millerbill. You put this question to me before some months back. That time we were discussing Spain. In my reply I said "I can see Spain youth unemployment was 18% in the period up to 2007. This was just above the EU average. The dramatic rise was in 5 years after the credit crunch recession of 2008. By 2013 it had risen to 50%, over double the EU average.
I see that as being a result of the recession rather than Spain being part of the EU. My question is why the recession hit the youth of Spain in particular & so serverely? I wonder why you think its all down to their membership of the EU?* Why do you think the youth of Spain would have faired better if Spain was an independent country?"
