McStay famously flung his jersey into the jungle, one end of season game. Did he want to move, or no-one came for him, who knows. I think Lambert was a better player, myself.

McStay had a great engine, very strong runner from midfield. Less a midfield battler, more silky and always scored a few each season running fae deep.

Re Strachan at AFC - Strachan was a world class player, by that I mean he was not out of place on the same park as world cup winners. The core of that AFC side was Miller and McLeish though, you won't hear any Dons fan say Miller wasn't the best player in that side. They'll also say he's the best player in the club's history.

McStay was class, that he stayed when he could of moved to any of the clubs in England at the time says it all, he loved playing for Celtic and that was enough for him.

Whether it was a mistake for his football career or not is up for debate.

The Centenary season was his peak imo if you see some of those games he was pure class - view external link

aye cheers Danny the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up watching the old Celtic park crowd from 1.47 in,

that Mcstay video 2:56 in I think it was I can clearly remember standing in the jungle and Mcstay hitting that pass to Chris Morris, no one saw that pass but as soon as he hit it was like the whole world opened up and that familiar centenary season feeling was there, Destiny

Good player who could have played at a higher level.
Don't remember any club actually making a move for him though.

    great times[/quote]

His goal at ibrox was an absolute belter, the one off the post and in. We won 2-0, Collins scored a belter.

The centenary season must have been amazing. Wish I was a few years older so I could have went.

Miller was fantastic at what he did in and around his own box, probably in the top 10 in the world at what he did. The level of his striking prowess is not in doubt either ahem! allowances for being bias here.
What miller offered aberdeen on top of that was loyalty and because of all that he will all ways be known as God.

Strachan was world class in every sence of the word, great player of that there's no doubt. Probably the best I've seen at pittodrie

What I'm asking is, how good mas Paul McStay? Few guys on the bus were talking about him yesterday and they reckon he was one of the best midfielders of his generation. I only seen him at the end of his career, so can't really judge.

As an aside, this is the vid of the old Celtic Park again, if this doesn't get you going then nothing will.

A wee bump for Oor Pogue.
