I think the 2nd album is hugely underrated.
The Roses are a great band with an awful singer.
Oh and Spike Island was rubbish.

I was right into the Mondays and the Roses back then, but the roses have become a bit of a myth over times. I can only listen to the first album now its still great and some of those ep's. 2nd album was poor or in my opinion anyway.
It was a scene at the time though, always liked the Mondays that bit more. The Roses seemed a bit too staged at times while the Mondays were really exactly as they seemed.
2 great bands in their day, the Mondays were the better live band in those early days too, one of their gigs was like a happening from the 60's, a real event.
Strange to say it with all the Roses hype but the Mondays were the more groundbreaking band too

Love The Roses. Second album is magic, for those who don't listen to the media.
just my opinion I much prefer 1st album to 2nd and its nothing to do with the media perception
I preferred the 1st album but can understand why woland prefers the 2nd. Squire was thought he was Jimmy Page.
There are some great tunes on the 2nd.
Loved the music from that time but Brown could never sing.
Neither could Shaun Ryder.
Neither could John Lydon.
If I only wanted to listen to a good singer, I'd listen to Pavarotti.
I think I might go and see Henry Cluney & Jim Reilly in Glasgow, Sat May 3rd.Originally Posted by Alternative_Poster
Mondays music certainly stands the test of time. I saw them play Aberdeen music hall a few years back and Ryder couldn't get aff his erse, a poor poor gig.
The atmosphere at Heaton park on the Sunday night will stay with me forever, but that might have been doon to some very nice disco biscuits.
I used to like Second Coming but there are too many coke fuelled filler songs for me.
Love Spreads, Breaking into Heaven, Ten Storey Love Song and Your Star will Shine are all good but the rest are pysh.
Calling Tears 'pysh' is an odd one.
Their best song IMO.
Okay maybe 'pysh' is harsh.Originally Posted by Mook1
Not a fan though. I like about half of that album.
