Absolutely, I remember him well. He's much more of a Wenger type player than someone that gets into an Allardyce team.

What concerns me is that this is clearly a Sullivan signing (albeit a very good one) so I could see him arriving then being benched by Sam in favour of Carroll & Nolan. The other alternative would be for Allardyce to put him on the wing as he did with Cole, Baldock, Diame & Maynard but the bloke is not a wide player.

    something else on this..

West Ham are understood to be close to finalising a deal to sign Mauro Zarate from Argentinean outfit Velez Sarsfield.

The Hammers are set for a busy summer as Sam Allardyce looks to try and inject some much-needed quality into his squad and Zarate looks set to be the first to put pen-to-paper.
The former Birmingham man passed a medical on Thursday as Allardyce looks to get his business done as early as possible.
Zarate netted 19 times and finished as the top scorer in Argentina's top flight as he resurrected his career, following poor spells with Inter Milan and Lazio.
It is understood that the east London side are also close to agreeing a deal with out-of-contract Sunderland star Jack Colback, who has refused to negotiate a new deal with the north east club.

Looks like this deal is happening now, the bloke has arrived at Heathrow today and has just done an interview with Sky and is talking about West Ham and their 'beautiful' training ground. . . . . apparently Tevez told him that bit.

If played in Nolans position he has the ability to be an iconic player like DiCanio or Tevez for us but he could also turn out to be the next Paulista or Nocerino if Sam doesn't play him. How Allardyce deals with this very talented player will show us exactly how much he has embraced the clubs new attacking policy.

because we rarely play 2 up front and if we did what would we do with Nolan who apparently plays in the hole, not to mention is our current Captain, so he stays.

Didnt we have a manager that played in the hole?! Pardew i think.

Its a plot by the Daves.

They sign Zarate and tell Sam to play him. Sam doesnt want to, they badger him until he resigns and they save money on his pay off.

    Job jibbed.

Seems to be taking quite a while for the deal to be completed...wonder who's come in for him.

C & P from West Ham web site...

Mauro ZA?rate could be set to become our first summer signing, and what's more, he will sign on a free transfer! What a bargain! His current club have confirmed today that they terminated his contract by mutual consent after a clause was triggered in his contract when a foreign club made an offer to him (us). There was thoughts he would cost a staggering A?6m, but this now doesn't appear to be the case. If the deal goes through, it will be a good business indeed.
