Unfortunately tribalism and religion played a massive part in the history of Ireland and when the people moved to Scotland they brought it with them. That's why you have orange halls and catholic schools.

When you see so many Irish familys in Scotland it perhaps makes the celtic connection to Ireland seem more legit but my point is that you wouldn't be able to tell who came from the "Rangers Minded" (is that better?)community of Ulster because their familys would be the same as the indigenous Scots.

nb. I prefer saying protestant and catholic because lets face it that's what we mean by "Rangers area" or "Celtic minded" etc...trivialising it to football teams lets too many people off the hook for being bigots.

Anyway, I will argue no more, it's a lovely sunny evening here and I hope

It's not about religion but it is the easiest way to distinguish between the two communities. That's what I meant. You're implying that Rangers fans don't have family ties to Ulster ...I'm merely saying there's a lot more than people realise.[/quote]

Surely the easist way to distinguish between the two communities in NI is to do so on their pro-British or pro-Irish line. Most modern folk don't give

It should be fine for anyone to embrace their heritage, it shouldnt need to be something that means it has to also put down some other culture or heritage
