Interesting that stewarty goes off on a list of nostalgia. Only two of these sports people have competed in the last 20 years or more. And they are two individual sportsmen rather than team players. Which is a worrying sign.

I actually think the above attitudes contribute to the dire results of most major Scottish Sport esp football. We are ever ready to reassure ourselves that failure is acceptable. We always have our excuses in advance....

And then when we achieve the predicted square root of fpuck all our pre heated excuses merely reinforce our "told you we arent good enough" mentality. We then add more excuses, we are too wee, we do alright for our size. When we contiunally set our sights as low and pat ourselves on the back with reassuring coments to pass it off it no wonder we never progress.

" Most of the management coaching duds of 20 years ago can still be found hawking their ineffective brand today as assistants backroom staff... Sandy Clark , Alex Smith, Tommy Craig , Paul Hegarty, Jocky Scott, Jim Duffy , Billy Dodds Maurice Malpas and the list goes on"

One of the best sentences I've read on here in a long time. Yet foreign managers are always criticised as soon as something goes wrong. It's almost lilke a Wee Scotlander conspiracy in the press and establishment of the game.
