Thread: True talisman missing link?

Sammon can't even hack it in the championship but he can hack it in the Scottish Premier League and SkyBet League 1.

Buxton isn't a talisman as his impact wasn't almost I stand and he's a battler without the ability to change things.

Gerard was a talisman for example.

Closest we had a while back was Osman on loan as another example.

Individuals have beend but not a talisman.

'The talisman does not necessarily have to be any good.' Really Roger? In the case of the ones I can think of, the likes of McKay, McFarland, Gemmill, Lee, Saunders, Wright, Van der Laan, Stimac, Eranio, McGrath, Seth, Osman and, for a couple of seasons anyway, Bryson, it certainly helped that they could all play a bit!

It's a fair point Rats. A talented and charismatic player can certainly make a difference.

For me Johnson certainly fits the bill. Hugely impressed with him so far. He seems to have been the catalyst of our season so far.

I think we have a few favourites at Derby.

I think Bradley Johnson is a fantastic player at this level. He's possibly one of the strongest players I've seen in this league. He keeps the ball very well, mostly down to his stature and frame. He looks like an NFL player interns of his upper body strength ????. For me, he is the most important signing we have made this season. He has the energy of Bryson but the strength to match. I'm looking forward to seeing Johnson and Bryson play together to actually see how it would work.

Keogh is the player of the season so far. Harshly treated by a few and he's demonstrated what a great pro he is by taking it on the chin and putting in shifts of great quality. He deserves to have his own chant.

Our team IMO is the best in this league and if we get promotion many will become cult hero's.

I'd put VdL in the same bracket. Along with Bobby Davison, maybe even David Swindlehurst.

You don't come across as many of those characters anymore.

Bradley Johnson could become one. Time will tell.

Chris Martin has that sort of aura too. Big character and unfazed.

The thing about a talisman is he is self created and evolves into one over time. I also think its his effect on the team not the fans that makes him one.
The team feels "safer" if he plays and they rely on him to dig them out of the mire when necessary. His impact is felt when you are doing badly rather than well. In business terms a trouble shooter.
Eventually the fans will recognise him for that and he will not always be the flashy player or goalscorer.

Rats I see your point yes it is nice to have a talisman But is it essential im not sure we got to a play off final without one,Plus would be hard pressed to say who is the talisman for Reading , Boro or Brighton and its not harming them is it . Think the only talisman in the Champs I can think of is probably Rhodes at Blackburn or Mcormack at Fulham
