Yep, how many others out there did the same (in the good old Sat 3 o'clock kick off days), that is do both?
I readily admit I didn't attend every BFC home game, but maybe 30% or so.
Back then it was 'skimmed milk' at Ewood and 'full cream' at t'Turf.
What goes around comes around I suppose.

PS. What a great refreshing posting this has been, lets have many more.
PPS. The very excellent Mr Newton is a great shout. As said, he epitomises in many ways, what's wrong with todays 'professionals'.

Bob, can I take it you used to purchase your LET (as it was then) from his corner newsagents at Sudell Cross.
Just think, England great selling chewing gum and news

Its a different world now,Despair. I remember the Lancashire Telegraph known as "the pink"in the 1960s with all the football results on the right-hand side of the front page! Think reporters were Granville Shackleton(Burnley)& Alf Thornton(Blackburn Rovers).

Granville Shackleton, proper! Can't believe no mention of Ralf Coates. Anyway, has to be Dobbo or Leighton James for me. Jimmy McIlroy's a good shout too.

I was thinking day by day paper. the Pink was issued at 5:30 ish on a Sat'dy. We all used to hang about around the shop until the van came blasting around all his stop offs, where he would literally sling the string bound quota off for someone to catch. Talk about hot off the press (it was). Imagine the poor van driver today: Fri night , Sat lunch, Sat tea, Sat night, Sun aft, Sun night etc etc etc etc..........
How the hell did we cope with life back then without mobiles and social media ???

Alf Thornton Legend himself , even after all these years how many times do we hear folk bemoan him not being sat at his typewriter these days, for proper reporting (without all the nonsense churned out) .

PS: about 3d (old pence-pennies)? or is my mind playing tricks (again)

I've looked him up now, Yorky. As is often the case, my memory let me down. He was a winger - not an inside forward.
He was only 5' 4", and played wide, but scored 67 goals for Burnley in 300 games.
    Those were the days!

I noticed a few mentions for Ray Pointer above. Sadly, it has just been reported he passed away last night.

I know he wasn't a Blackburn player so I wouldn't normally post this on a Rovers site but it did seem relevant to this thread.

Someone mentioned Ralph Coates. He used to live next door to us back in the 60s and would often come out onto the back street to play headers, walley or cuppies. All back street football based games.
