    Your favourite Burnley player

There has to have been one or two who you`ve thought "I wish we could have had him"
I`ve always had two , Terry Cochrane and Tony Morley . Both were exciting wingers who got on the ball and ran at defenders taking them on with their dribbling skills .
    Who would others have ?

I was a great admirer of Martin Dobson when I watched fairly often back in their real glory days.

As a Burnley fan I will take this question from the opposite side. One player of yours that I always liked was Kevin Gallacher.

Has to be Keith Newton who played as a full-back for Rovers in the 1960s team which of course included such great players as Ronnie Clayton,Bryan Douglas,Mike England,Roy Vernon,Fred Pickering & Andy McEvoy..all internationals....who I saw play many times.
Keith Newton had a distinguished career as an international right-back for England in the 1970 World Cup setting up both of Englands goals in the 3-2 defeat by West(as it then was)Germany in Mexico.
He was transferred from Rovers to Everton and joined Burnley on a free transfer helping them to promotion back to the top division. I cant think of another footballer who had such a successful career with BOTH Blackburn & Burnley. 357 total appearances for Rovers(inc.Cups etc) 10 goals and with Burnley 252 appearances 7 goals.
He tragically died far too early in 1998 in Blackburn. A man who stayed true to his roots living in the community in spite of his fame.

Brian Pilkington, left Burnley in '61 my first game was in '63 so didn't see him but a well known player. Amazed that Tony Morley has been championed, a great prospect when at Preston, but never fulfilled it at Burnley, despite stories of him being brilliant in training, Thought we did really well to get our money back off Villa, he did better there, mainly remembered for one 'goal of the year' winner, but still never fulfilled his potential imo. Some other good shouts though, including my boyhood hero Ray Pointer, A few years back I was driving a couple and there daughter home to Blackpool after their holidays, it came up in conversation that I am a Burnley fan when the hubby tells me that his wifes dad had played for Burnley, I asked who, expecting it to be some obscure youth player from the 80s but you guessed it, it was Ray Pointers daughter!!!
As for one from you, well much as I can't stand him, a genuine world class forward can't be ignored, so Shearer for me.

Have to agree Alf, Bryan Douglas (dougie) very tricky winger in them days, i used to go to both Clarets and Ewood alternate weeks. and as he was at the end of his career, my loyalties stayed with just Burnley. But he was my Boyhood hero, and time moves on..
