Except he did a NLN and tried to close the game down in the last 15 mins. England can't defend well enough to do that. Russia were poor and we should have finished them off.

Bottled it at the end a little. The Wales selection will be interesting, if Sterling makes the starting 11 we will know he is struggling.
His natural inclination is not to lose..

I just wonder how many more chances Sterling deserves?! The only other player to disappoint was Kane. I'd like to see Sturridge and Rashford start against the Welsh; a game in which we cannot afford the luxury of missed chances.

I thought we played very well and really should have won the game convincingly.

As most on here have said - it was a pretty good performance but as the old cliché goes - don't score when you're on top you'll get punished - never been truer than last night. Agree with all the comments about show pony Sterling and I thought Woy bottled it by not bringing on Vardy for Kane pretty early in the second half. He needs to get some balls like Eddie Jones who changed his side pretty pronto yesterday when things clearly weren't working. I'm also sorry to say that I truly believe Vardy would have been on if he played for one of the big boys!

Spot on... Felt a bit sorry for Kane though, one of those nearly days...
Woy is loyal but that can be a bad thing... Sterling has hardly played for City but still gets in. Woy was still floundering with the formation up to the last minute.. Agree re Vardy, who did he not get on against an aging defence!
I still believe our best formation for the players we have is the diamond.. The full backs were exceptional yesterday and they will give us the width. When Woy played it Vardy and Kane almost ended up as wide players with defensive responsibilies... Cautious Woy again.. Then he dumps it after not playing it properly in the first place.
We still have a good shot at the championship but I feel we need circumstance to help Woy find the way. Choices confuse him...

Got the impression that Hodgson's half-time talk was about how they'd been a bit over exuberant and a little reckless in the 1st half and how they should all calm down a little in the 2nd half - it would certainly explain the slow start in the 2nd half and handing the initiative to the Russians - Roy just doesn't have it in him to really go for it (so resorts to Milner instead of Vardy) - though that's probably understandable given our fickle press and how he'd have been slaughtered if we'd have lost....

Vardy should have replaced Kane after 70, Sturridge in for Sterling at same time(or before!!). Moved Dier to a 3rd centre back with Milner replacing a tired Rooney. They only had high balls to offer, this would have been covered whilst giving us 2 quickies up front.

I particularly enjoyed how all the people calling Roy an idiot for taking Rooney to France in the first place were calling Roy (sorry woy is more likely the nondeplume of choice for those sort of twits) an idiot for subbing 'our most effective player'.

TBF they tend to be internet trolls and Man U haters. In the pub it was "Rooney, Rooney..." from the start. Used to read the same rubbish about Beckham

Finally got back on the site and having a quick read through. Agree with Angry, full backs were brilliant, Rooney was good and Sterling poor. Also thought Lallana very good first half. Interesting stat, Kane never touch the ball in their box.
