We don't pay minimum wage. It was £7.90 and hour when the rest were on £6.50 or whatever it was, and is now £8.25...

Not sure what that is supposed to mean, but the company took the decision to pay higher rates to attract better staff, but obviously still not enough to lever the natives out of their beds. Staff also received a 4.4% pay rise this year.
The attitude of your post is helping me understand, though, why we don't seem to be attracting the locals...
It's also a fairly good indicator of why we no longer have any sort of heavy manufacturing industry as we once did.

People such as your self annoy me a great deal , you think you are paying out decent money when in fact you do the opposite , you use the living wage as some kind of indication that you are some sort of wealth provider , yeh that's why on the wages you pay the government needs to top them up to make it worthwhile .

The industry's of the 70s and 80s provided real wages topped up by nobody , they kept areas prosperous and local economies functioning , trade union representation saw to that .

If in today's world you can't pay a bloke at least between £10 and £12 an hour then you don't have a business , made clear to you by the locals it seems , nothing to do with lazy , your simply exploiting the labour market .

Bet you do alright though hey fella .

the industry of the 70s and 80s weren't competing with cheap everything from the Far East, and when they were, they quickly collapsed. if you're now expecting better wages because a handful of Europeans will go home, good luck.

    I cover my debts...
The company isn't owned by me - it is foreign-owned - I just look after a bit of it...
The British industries that shelled out these 'real wages' are long gone... I wonder why that is...

Because there is far too much paid out at the top , corporate pay climbs ever higher whilst wages at the bottom are kept in check , this is the end result of anti union legislation , migration and a boom and bust economy .

Why do think we see so much inequality these days ?
