But If you get in the right manager at that level (which is the crucial part) then the vast majority of our current squad will be far better than anything at that level. Obviously Coyle would need replacing. I'd suggest Keith Hill. Has good links with us, and has always done an excellent job with Rochdale. I don't believe going down would be the be all and end all. But all of this is a mute point while the Chicken Lovers are in town.
I don't know what to think, Champs. Coyle was yet another insensitive bloomer on the Raos' part, but he HAS been labouring under the twin burden of poor player-investment and a debilitating injury-list.
On the LT site, people talk about the players having no faith in him, but how do they explain the Newcastle performances? For much of the time, Coyle has demonstrated what we suspected and feared: a slightly naive and deluded approach of relying on an attacking line-up. However, he HAS been very unfortunate with defensive disruptions.
In the end, I still feel we are suffering from three major (five-year-long) problems: (1) a lack of on-field leadership; (2) inconsistency; (3) lack of confidence and self-belief.
Obviously, the manager has to carry some responsibility for these things too, but - let's be honest - it hasn't just been ONE manager! The trouble is, any replacement is just a matter of guesswork. As you know, I have always been sceptical about this "It's all down to the manager" theory. If that was the case, I can't see how the same man can appear to be brilliant with one club, but look incompetent with another. (Look at David Moyes!)
I would agree that Coyle is in last-chance saloon, but I'd have thought we would be wary of the idea of a managerial saviour riding to the rescue. It amuses me that a lot of the posters on the LT site who used to foam at the mouth about Gary Bowyer are now looking back at his time in charge nostalgically.

Yes I see the bowyer nostalgia
the fact is as great as he was stabilising the club he had reached his time we were slipping down the league the unfortunate thing is 2 managers since have failed to arrest the slide
Rowett is available and would show great commitment by venkys if they approached him but as we have seen with Coyle being made manager in the first place they have a distinct lack of knowledge or sensitivity.
