The only reason i can see of bringing McClean on instead of McAuley was the decision was made quite quickly due to an apparent injury and McClean had been warming up for quite a while was ready to come on and McAuley wasn't, we don't seem to be having a lot of luck with injuries at the moment.

The old adage,'You don't appreciate what you've got until you lose it', comes to mind. I'm referring to Dawson of course!
Dawson is a poor right back. He will never make a wing back. He offers nothing going forward. Last night Nyom did not play right back he played as a defensive three. Out of position again. A bit like the Anti Coach playing him at left back.
Last night Megson should have reverted to four at the back after we went two up . As Evans was not covering the left back due to them shoving two up front. We should have gone 4-4-2

    Nyom didn’t look interested ?
We became dreadfully unbalanced in the latter stages ( notwithstanding Matty’s Injury )
Positives undoubtedly Sammy and I thought Kanu looked threatening. Johnny as ever solid...but his coolness worries me to death.
Victory over Palace required...actually essential !!

Went to the game last night , must say disappointed but fair play to Newcastle and especially their fans 2 nil down and neither gave up, Field was brilliant , stand out performance for me

At the time I thought the Gibbs substitution was strange too, but found out afterwards from someone close to the dugout that Gibbs had a thigh injury.

I agree that Evans to LB would have been a better option, McClean, as much as I love his pace and effort, is a liability defensively, I also agree that Nyom appears to have gone backwards this season.

I pretty sure that had young Sam put in that sort of performance for a top 6 side the national press would have been raving about him.
