I'm sure we'd all prefer to see a live band Sub, and I take your point about Tribute bands, but they do fulfill a need. People know what they like and they like what they know, and if the original isn't around any more then they'll flock to hear and see a near approximation. And as musicians have to make a living like everyone else, it's win win, the fans get the music they like, and the musicians get to eat.

I haven't seen a lot of Tribute bands, a Genesis band I saw were only mediocre I thought, but From The Jam with Foxton were pretty good. I've seen Pink Floyd live twice and the Australian Pink Floyd live twice, and to be honest I couldn't tell the difference, except the real Floyd light show was vastly superior.
I did once see the Sneaker Pimps live, for most of their set they were sat on their amps chatting and waving to the crowd, but the music played on. So what is 'live' music ?

Agree that they fill a need, however, wouldn't it be better if they were producing something original instead of imitating others just to line their own pockets. I have nothing against bands who go playing at dances and doing covers of popular music during the course of the evening etc., etc., however, advertising yourself as a tribute band is just taking money off people ----it is fake goods!!
Don't get me started about the devices used on stage these days which cover up a multitude of sins!

Best shows I have ever seen ---Earth, Wind and Fire ---5 times: Billy Joel ---twice. Backed Shirley Bassey in Berlin back in the 70s and backed Matt Monro in the early 70s ---both tremendous. Also The Tamla Motown Road Show back in 1967 (I think) was just something else to behold. Saw Count Basie in Germany, Buddy Rich in Copenhagen and lots of other big bands in those days --great memories.

there's an experience......Love his voice - Sub......a little trivia - (as I remember it) when he sang From Russia with Love - his Wife and I think daughter went to the Premier...they didn't know when they'd hear him sing it - but as it wasn't played at the films beginning - the first time they heard it was when Bond was on a river bank with a bird and a boat passed by - it was playing his song through a radio - so family thought - that was it, that's all they'd get.....so were surprised again when the credits rolled and......there it was .

looked him up singing a Crimbo song - found this unexpectedly interesting "Calypso style" "Mary's Boy Child" .
