Sorry, I meant unavailable for us. I can see how that reads, I was trying to say that we’ve lost players to that tournament before and rightly so as we knew their status when we signed them.

I didn’t think a club could block a player from playing in an official international, even though there have been a few dodgy injuries appearing at certain times in the past. Therefore, the story about an improper application could be true and, in that case, Watford are doing nothing wrong.

    Technically, they're not.

You just wonder how the player feels about it? I get where the club are coming from in terms of his importance to them but you wonder if it might backfire if his performances dip because he's pissed off? And, as said, the club knew what they were getting into when they bought an African player.

Hopefully it causes real issue and blows up inside their squad - feels harsh wanting that but anything that can unsettle them to our advantage. . . I'll take it.

I think the main problem is the African Cup is played halfway through the best and richest leagues in the world seasons.Italy,Spain,England and Germany did not have this problem forty years ago as there was few if any African Internationals playing at the top level.

Yeah Senegal have complained about it. Watford saying he is injured but the player himself supposedly told Senegal he wanted to play at the AFCON. Could cause some real issues for them behind the scenes. Watford I mean.
