Ladapo we still have a option of 12 months on his contract, at the end of this season.

Michael Smith out of contract end of season, club has no option on his contract.

But with promotion salaries go up, so Smith & co will get a salary rise, like when relegation
salaries drop, that is if the club has this in the contract.
Michael Smith says, he & his family happy with the area they live in, with schools etc, so
Michael Smith has to do what he thinks is best for his family, but all transfers don't work
out, moving to a different club could turn belly up, moving his family to a different area,
moving schools might not suit his children, if a transfer took Smith to a different area of
the country, the family upheaval could be a major factor.
Michael Smith's agent may have put ideas into Smith, with a better salary elsewhere, but
not forgetting the agent is after a slice of a transfer fee, so sometimes a transfer is not
in the best interests of the player, but in the best interests of the agent.
Time now the transfer window is closed, Tony Stewart and Paul Warne have to sort out a
contract package for Michael Smith, which benefits the club & the player, to keep Smith
    at the NYS.

The family life aspect can be a big part of decision making for any player but most teams interested in Smith could be in commuting distance. So kids can have minimum disruption at school etc.

Then there's the other side of the coin, players coming to a town " famous" for Asian pe dophiles and Eastern European drug rings.

I'd have liked Grigg to have gone back we play like a speed game he's slow motion. Bola could have gone. I'd have loaned Ladapo out can't see point of him being here. Happy with two players brought in.

I can imagine the daily conversation in the Gru household.

"Like a cup of tea?" "Yes please, and don't forget, I like it strong, two sugars, not too hot and in my Julien Lamy mug".

    An hour goes by....

That assumes he lives in Rotherham? It is more likely that the players live in the nice places away from the town centre and can have access to other cities for facilities

I see SUNDERLAND were burning the midnight oil last night, signing 2 players very late on. I know Jermaine Defoe is a bit long in the tooth but he knows where the goal is and if he can bang in one or two to boost their stalling promotion bid then I guess it's worth the gamble.
Amongst other promotion rivals MK DONS signed 3, shelling out money for 2 of them and trying to bring fresh young legs to their midfield.
WIGAN were also busy, paying for Jamie McGrath from St Mirren where he was their player of the year last year, as well as a loan signing from Luton. That's on top of Curtis Tilt , of course.
WIMBLEDON also signed a couple tho' not actually spending hard cash - a bit like us then.
Could be an interesting push to the end of the season, especially if half of these signings come off. Let's hope ours are amongst those that do.

Did we really need new players in anyway?

We're doing alright as we are and we've got a settled squad and that counts for a lot.

Smithy lives other side of Barnsley, Woody at wakefield(ish),,,,Ick was at Chezzie but now back at Liverpool area, Think Rathbone is still in Manc area and shares with Icky. Some of the single lads at Wicko, so safe from kiddy fiddlers....
