Much better than the Austrian (sort of) lower level equivalents that only ended in years of abject failure for everyone concerned.

    I guess they swiped right…

Certainly have respect for The Queen (not that I have shown much in the last couple of posts - soz, Brenda!).

    I’m just miffed I didn’t get that Knighthood I so don’t deserve.

Not totally sold on the extended family, but that’s just my half-baked opinion and I don’t really know what duties most of them are required to perform.

Remember kids, the alternative could be President Johnson…

    Oz, you are incorrect.
Our rulers don’t”work for a living”. Most come in with modest, if any, savings and assets and leave multi millionaires with millions in US as well as Swiss bank accounts. This in spite of the fact they gat paid 180k and live in the most expensive city in the US. They are immune to laws, taxes and regulations that we deal with daily. They also get lifetime pensions and the best healthcare in the US for free.

No one at the IRS seems to think that anything untoward is going on. I win $500 gambling and they audit me the next year but can’t seem to find how Bernie Sanders has never had a job and is worth 40,000,000 with 4 pieces of real estate free and clear

I will take the queen anyday. She at least has class and dignity. Something no DC vermin ever has or will

We all feel the same way and respect the people in the UK for the support they have for her and the monarchies its what happen that time that I lost all respect for her again its only my point of view. And yes I know all about the corrupt politicians all over the world but this guy was so different till his dying days.
Forty-five years ago, Australia’s most popular Labor prime minister, a man whose face and words still adorn fashionable tote bags, was sacked by Queen Elizabeth II’s representative

Always makes me think of Midnight Oil's lyrics....

"Gough was tough till he hit the rough"... 🙄

Think the queen has been amazing but I also understand (even if I don’t agree with) those who question the role of the monarchy in modern life.

I suspect if you polled about the queen you may get massively positive and very different results to if you polled about the royal family in general.

She has been a constant for many of us and embodies so many fine and good qualities.

"Queen Elizabeth II's representative", as I said in an earlier post, do some research on how a constitutional monarchy works, and a bit about your own government. Then you might wish to aim your ire at those actually responsible for whatever happened, it certainly wasn't HRH.

Actually, Oz has this one spot on right. The Governor-general who is the Queen's representative does and did have the authority to dissolve government which he did. Whether there other factors in play which led to him doing so is not relevant to Oz's statement - effectively the Queen exercised her power and dissolved government which meant its Leader - Gough Whitlam was sacked.

No he hasn't got it right. The Queen as a constitutional monarch has no "power" to instruct any of the Governors-general who remain in situ. The instruction to dissolve any government where there is a Governor-general is the prerogative of the UK government and more particularly the UK Prime Minister of the day. The Queen is required to provide her assent, just as she is required to give assent to UK government bills, such assent has never been withheld in living memory.
