Thread: The Blame Game Brigade, again.

  1. #11
Think Joseph is going to be a cracking player. Bear in mind it is his first proper season where he is getting starts.

Ideally, he would have been out on loan to cut his teeth and get experience before taking up the reins at ER.

Definitely not helped by the fact that Bambi is injured most of the time and Piroe doesn?t necessarily suit Farke?s system as an out and out 9. He is therefore being expected to perform when he might not be fully ready.

I definitely don?t think our youth to first team pathway is very structured any more and think Farke just concentrates on the here and now and less so on young player development.

I feel sorry for Meslier as he has been in the front line for 5 seasons and probably needed periods where he was taken out of the front line but there was no realistic good option.

However, he is now 24 and is prone to making howlers and wonder if the back four have lost faith in him.

I am sure Farke will point to Archie Gray and possibly Rutter as young talent he developed but both were obviously talented and took their chances straightaway.

In the ledger on the other side there are so many players who don?t seem to be getting chances and game time Cresswell last year, Joffy, Crew, Debayo, Gyabi (who is doing well at Plymouth), Greenwood, Chambers and Max Dean (now ripping it up elsewhere) to name but a few.

If he can?t trust youth then we need to spend a bit more of the cash we brought in over the summer and last year (about 140-150m with Sinisterra and Adams fees added in).

They also need to get Bamford?s wages off the books - since PL season one he hasn?t really cut it - either missing big chances or just being injured/unfit.

Ramsdale doesn?t seem to be playing at Soton so surely a loan to buy deal for him would be good. Not sure there is anyone available as a striker who is better than what we have (maybe a loan deal from the bigger clubs) and no obvious number 10 available bar possibly Hamer but his is more of an 8.

Farke has occasionally suggested Rothwell could play there but with half the season gone hasn?t happened yet. Similarly, Gnonto and Solomon could play there (Gnonto has even played up front for Italy) and yet again it?s not been tried.

Farke is a decent manager at this level but no more than that. He also seems very poor at using young talent which given we supposedly have a lot of that coming through makes him a poor fit for us.

His pre match and post match interview are also being more and more tedious.

Have said before that Solomon would be a good no 10, with piroe ahead of him, James and ramazani/Gnonto either side, a fast effective front line in my opinion, as for playing youth, it’s difficult, farkes job is on the line, it’s cut throat, play youth and lose points never to be regained, or keep playing what we have and try getting promotion with them. Unless someone is really outstanding like gray, who he played all last season, and he played ruttter, Summerville, Gnonto he gets stick from all whatever he does, I recall he put a few younger players in last season at stoke i think, we lost and he got slaughtered for doing so, a poison chalice.

Repeating a critique point can help ensure that the message should be understood - I get the critique point of whether it could, would or should happen. But in my football vocabulary anything 'can' happen when considering all modal auxiliary verbs is my take.👍

Damn sure Joseph will be putting pressure on himself despite Farke still having faith in him to do well for the team.
For me his work ethic & selflessness plays an unseen significant role of merit & the goals will come too. He is best in the traditional number 9 role (which he plays for Spain) but Farke requires more than that as he plays as our loan striker - technically different but thats the way we play & Joseph needs to learn these differing styles at this stage of his career into becoming the complete finished article.

Joseph is presently being asked to show his maturing body strength to hold off defenders & to secure possession for Leeds, thus proving his ability as an outlet when under pressure & allowing space & time for our wingers to exploit. Nothing spectacular, but he holds onto the ball, he is also a good carrier of the ball too & presently he is being asked to do a specific job for the team which allows Leeds to recycle possession via his constant movements 'off the ball' - either you get that aspect of career advancement or you dont !
If Joseph continues to improve his movement & hold-up play then he can become a force to be reckoned with, imo.

If not he will be loaned out if we go up, imo.
Piroe as our other attacker has fought for playing time this season too & to his credit has scored goals from a number of places but in truth has also occasionally struggled with consistency - not surprising as he is being used in a role that we have struggled to find a consistent solution.

Playing anyone in fits & starts is difficult into finding consistency for sure, imo, hence why players are loaned out.

Thats what we have but PL ready ? 🤐

Farke has done & is doing an honest job as his remit asks - top of league & developing players too.
Can he cut it in PL ?
Imo, tactically maybe not but if he gets that chance it will have to be with 11 new signings, imo, & that is real pressure for sure.
So a 'big ask' with huge outlays of money !

Ok, head in lions mouth time......so the thread title didn't relate to Meslier but to another relatively young player yet to realise perceived "potential". FWIW I don't think he will prigress to a level substantially better than where he is at present. He doesn't have the physique of a Wood, neither does he have the killer instinct of a Sniffer or the like. Neither inadequacy can be easily fixed. It's a shame as the lack of game time resulting from Farkes myopia regarding young players has allowed expectations when he has played to be blown out of all reasonable proportion. He'll have a good career at Championship level (or equivalents in other leagues), but he won't be what we need. No blame attached, just not good enough.

Also the point I was trying to make is by playing youngsters and losing points how far behind do we have to be and playing catch up before enough is enough and leave the youngsters out.

Not sure about the developing players point MT but I also suspect he has a very narrow remit of just get us up which he has done pretty well against.

If we do go up I don?t think he would be suited to keeping us there and the board and owners might need to take some fairly brutal decisions with coaches and squad if the aim is to stay up at all costs.

If we go up they'll keep him get a couple players nowhere near a Salas type more like A Summerville sack him three quarters into the season and sack another three till the end back to championship rinse and repeat. So far I haven't seen anything the 49ers have done to raise my hopes.

I hope not but fear you may be right.

The model is there to follow if they analyse Fulham, Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton. Forest and Wolves did it in ways that probably can?t work anymore.

    Plan should be simple.

    1. Appointment of a suitable manager/head coach who is tactically astute and flexible and can develop youngsters but keep us up.

    2. Get rid of overpaid players who can?t contribute or those who are just not good enough.

    3. Have a plan for overhauling the squad and bringing in quality over a three or four year period but strengthening the areas that matter or where we are weak as the priority.

    4. Redevelop the ground but noting there is little point if we end up in an endless relegation/promotion cycle.
