Elizabeth has been a fantastic head of state, her husband has also been fantastic.
So we're to ignore the fact that King George the something was a massive nazi at a time when Kings of England actually had real influence? Okeh then.

I see him as trying to be a guiding figure for "The other one"😁....his post was the equivalent of saying "any more of that and I'll stop you're pocket money"....which is fairly strong for Bcram.

Sorry Taintedice I think you are mixing up the allegations made in fictional programmes like The Crown about Edward VIII and his marriage to Mrs Simpson during the mid 1930's. Thats when the Nazi issue arose. The monarchy have not had real power for a very long time. When James VI was invited to become monarch of the United Kingdom in 1707 he was invited to do so by the Westminster Parliament which had been United, hate that description, in 1603..I tried to find a date when the absolute monarch was amended to create the system we currently have.

Yes, should have done some research. Edward was the Nazi King not George. Obviously Kings and Queens haven't had any power since Henry VIII, Queen Victoria just sat in her parlour and knitted all day James VI was in 1603, Union of the Crowns, and wielded substantial power. United Kingdom didn't exist till the early 1800s.

Typo I am sure Taintedice, but union of the parliaments was 1603 and Union of the crowns James 1st and 6th was 1707. I thought this created the United Kingdom, but not sure. Rross no doubt will correct .

I think that people who post on this forum in the past wee while have improved it a bit. Covid has been an interesting topic and so has the discussion about Holyrood and Nicola. Noticed she has volunteered to give up her daily broadcast during the run up to the election because it was unfair. Must have been true then when all the other political parties have been saying this for months.

Yes, of course, execution of Charles 1 and good old Commonwealth led by Oliver Cromwell as an alternative. Didn't last and they 8nvited Charles 11 to come back.
