He was very wrong with the words he used, he was right to be angry with the article Jan Moir wrote though about Stephen Gateley.

I think today if he wrote these tweets he'd be in much more trouble and rightly so.

To an extent, yes. But there was a huge amount of misinformation put forward via social media and certain politicians claiming, amongst other things, that the perpetrator had recently arrived on a small boat. Given the political climate at the time we all know why and that, imo, is why social media is so dangerous. It mobilises dangerous half wits who don’t want to have their prejudices fact checked.

How appropriate maybe that reference has been made to streetings response to Jan Moirs article about Stephen Gateley.

That article was an example where when it's written in a way where people understand what you are trying to say, however if there is a backlash you hide behind the 'i was only asking questions ' defence. I wonder where else we've heard that recently?

You’ll probably believe that I’m disagreeing with you just for the sake of tit for tat. I’m not, but you really need to provide evidence when you say things like this.
I feel certain that when descriptions of someone that the police are looking for, or warning about, that details of skin colour/likely ethnicity are included.
In any case, in most cases an identikit style image will also be attached and it’s difficult to avoid reaching a conclusion when confronted with such evidence.
It maybe that once people were misguidedly reluctant to refer to skin colour in such cases. I doubt that’s the case any longer and I certainly haven’t noticed any recent reticence to attach ethnic labels where discussion of grooming gangs has been concerned.
