interesting debate on a few different topics simultaneously, good stuff. In regards to one of them.

    We aren't what we were.
We haven't been what we were for a very long time.
Even recalling the Warnock era was 30 years ago!! Let alone going further back to Sirrel.

It has nothing to do with acceptance or (lack of) ambition, if you can't get it into your head that we are in NL where we are one of the big fishes by the 3rd season then no wonder some on here are so negative and have no fun. They are living in a distant past and clearly haven't adjusted accordingly.

I don't think the likes of Barrow, Harrogate, Sutton and now Boreham Wood have a large budget, but the first 3 are all in division 1 now.

Bullsh!t. For the first 30 years of my support it was mainly celebration.
In over 18 years of posting I'd hope you could find one or two lol.

    And the last 30 years?
13 promotions in our history. You've been fortunate to witness our golden period and see 7 promotions in the past 60 years.

    Let's not mention the relegations.

Yup we are one of the obvious successful football clubs of this country is widely known

The notion that we are Notts County and we are too big for the National League irks me. As a club we have been dying of a thousand paper cuts since the Warnock era. Too many promises of Championship football in 5 years. Too many owners that have borrowed more than we can afford.
As a football club we are where we deserve to be. That I accept. I also accept that for the first time in forever as a Notts fan, I feel the club is being ran properly. The new owners have steadied the ship. Are giving Notts County FC a foundation on which to rebuild. It’s not an over night job and the owners are not here to provide a quick fix and then piss off.
Would I like to see us looking down the table at 22 clubs? Of course I would. That said it only means something when you are doing that in May and not December.
We have a club that is rebuilding. The owners have a plan. I feel it’s a plan that will bear fruit both financially and in terms of League status.

Good post. Reiterating what others have said previously, unfortunately it does seem to keep falling on deaf ears where some are concerned.

As someone who experienced some of the best years in recent history of this club it still sickens me that we are where we are, but it's important to look at the bigger picture and appreciate what is currently trying to be achieved.

Back to back very good posts IMO.

There are definitely two schools of thought on this hence the "keep falling on deaf ears".

We sign players we feel we can improve by playing a certain way. Most teams in the Prem and championship play a possession style of football. By getting our players playing this way, and players like Rodrigues flourishing (yet still a rough diamond) will have the odd scout at those levels looking - that’s where the money is and it’s there money we want. We don’t want to be accepting 100k off Bradford we want several hundred thousand and sell on clauses from much higher up. That’s our model. The owners want us to be self financing.
The hope is that we develop players and get promoted. You would think if Radar works then the 2 objectives will co-exist.
    Well said 78

I’m certainly much happier with owners who seem level-headed and quietly improving the way the club is run, rather than appearing desperate for instant success on the pitch.

The trouble with dwelling on how far we have fallen is that it promotes despair after every setback and an unhealthy desperation to get back to League 2. Desperation can get short term results but it’s not going to do so over a full season. Confidence that we can do well in the next game is more repeatable, provided that the confidence is well founded. We need to know that we are a good team with good players for this league, and we need ambition to improve
