No doubt there are absolutely guarantees as your examples show regardless of the specific situation in those seasons but it does show progress. Under these owners i don?t expect a dramatic fall as we saw in those season. They are too sensible for that.
When you finish 14th and 18th you aren?t in the promotion playoff picture when it comes to the business end of the season. If you finish in the top 7 you clearly are. You need a ticket to win a raffle and 4-7 is that ticket in hand, 14-18 means you didn?t know there was a raffle.
You shouldn?t judge progress on such a basic level as promotion equals progress, relegation regression and staying in the league as parity. It?s far more nuanced than that
I wonder if the owners would look at it like that, after spending a couple of million on the pitch and buying the nest. You dont spend that amount of money to see the team play badly and see the gates starting to decline. The aim is promotion, and if it is not achieved then SM will be gone.. I also think the reason why we havent replaced the coaching staff is that a new set of coaches will be brought in during the close season...
Hopefully not. As mentioned I want their expectation to be far higher than most of the fanbase. If we do not make the playoffs, as many predicted, then I would want him gone. Some still claim they aren?t ambitious!! More crash talk.
Your posts and salient points made perfectly illustrates the HUGE difference between owners and supporters which sadly is regularly forgotten. Their combined season ticket costs in the region of ?1.5m a season and they make the decisions that matter which to date has shown great progress at the club. To the point where an attendance of 7,872 for a midweek game which is on TV and with an away support of sub 100 is viewed as surprisingly low and disappointing. That really says all you need to know about progress made by these owners.
Correct he did say that what would be interesting to know is how is the points target set.
Is it set on data which I assume as I can?t imagine anybody could say to a manager your target is 85 points this season that to me seems a ridiculous way of heaping pressure onto the squad and also other factors could play a part in not hitting those targets.
He will get this season without doubt but he might not survive until next season who knows ?
I assume they set targets and adjust them regularly during the season, with the aim of promotion always in mind.
I’d also assume we were expecting six points from the last two games, not one - making the tougher fixtures against Wimbledon and Grimsby ones where they now need to target at least four points. The fact we’re away may count in our favour, at least.
I still think he has a good chance of getting us promoted, he will get the playoffs for sure.
I'm struggling to see how promotion doesn't equal progress, relegation doesn't equal regression, and staying in the same league doesn't equal parity. Especially coming from you who has repeatedly insisted that a higher finishing position in the league means progress!!!
I'm on the shelf regarding Maynard's ability to get us promoted this season, should we miss out on automatic promotion and we make the play offs and fail then I believe the management position may be reviewed, after all promotion has to be the owners aim.
March could be a defining month for us depending on results which on paper look tricky, but i always think promotions and relegations are lost and won during the Easter program. So im keeping an open mind and my fingers crossed.
