this most recent result is really disappointing, and that doesn't reflect well on Maynard (or anyone), but so far it's about the only result all season where I'd say that.

In a season with better injury luck we'd still be sitting on the auto promotion spots, and I can't hang that on the head coach. Doesn't make sense.

If we he was failing with a full team I'd have more questions. As it is, I don't.

makes sense of course. I really dislike the old management revolving door but think trends suggest this may be a critical moment in this season.

That team yesterday was incapable of playing possession football, not only out of defence but everywhere across the pitch. This season is turning into a repeat of last season because of key injuries and a poor squad. I don't care what anyone says, we will not get out of the division using the current recruiting model for 2nd string players.
agree but the thousand foot view for discussion now we've played enough early/pre/season games with this setup, is that we're not strong enough to compete consistently as a unit - for some reason. And this is entering a critical stage of the season. Lots of contributing factors to one degree or another: recruitment, coaching staff, individual player issues, injuries, luck, ref protection... but like Slack said, we're slowly but surely losing our identity.

Our marauding attack has melted away, our midfield is essentially Abbott in terms of impacting games, and now our potentially bricksh!thouse defence is proving to made of straw - again - sorry it's no laughing matter, we're not passing with any threat, we're not able to best any kind of press, and we're giving dumb goals away - again. Even worse to my mind, is that we've hardly any fight. At least if you're the coach and your team can't be slick or brilliant cuz sicknotes, then you put in more effort than the other team and find a way to compete. And it we're not even competing consistently...

Line manager/coach has to change pdq at this point/be changed, no?

Historically they have patience with managers and are fair. I think we are at the stage now though where this has been displayed but they have also been ruthless when required.
PS - i hope that Maynard with a full squad and a series of home games will get us going again , however a few more repeat performances of Saturday and those with Good will for him ( including me) will probably be for turning !!
Yes. This is basically where I am too.

It would help if he played players in their correct positions. Wingbacks like Tsarullah playing on the left, Crowley in a forward attacking midfield role leaving Abbott and Palmer to do the defending duties plus giving Jatta more support upfront. It's not rocket surgery.

I see Russell Martin has now been sacked by Saints as well. It's almost as if this possession-based football only works if you have the best players in the league. Teams that attempt to play that way with sub-par players get found out time and again.

Possibly but id say Cooper at Leiceater was defensive and so is Dyche at Everton there is no magic fix.

If you're players arent good enough you will lose matches it is really that simple.

It's the manner of the defeats though. Southampton wouldn't have lost/conceded as many as they have if they were managed by Dyche or Cooper.

Maybe not but like I said whatever he does they are likely to be bottom three anyway they will probably go for an old school manager now who will probably tighten them up but they will become more boring.

Exactly the same thing has happened to us since Williams left.

Well that and 2 of our most creative players being injured long term and the best striker we had for decades being sold. And of course if you want Cameron and Baldwin in the middle let me know.
