I listened to October the other day having not listened to it for years. It has stood the test off of time, and sounds like an album which could of been released last year. The guitar on it still sounds fresh and original and some of the songs are rousing rock anthems really. Strangely though, there are an couple off of tunes which point towards the subsequent changes and see them crawling up their own arses. That is probably because off of the rewrites and things. I heard years ago that Bono lost most of the lyrics for the album when they were touring the States, and had to write on the hoof in the studio. I think he were changing the band's direction then.
This album was the start of the transition really, and until the weekend I had always thought it was War where they changed. A lot of people who liked Boy didn't like October, but I always did.
