I've been to the Mason's Arms in Branscombe. Bu99ered if I can remember what I had or how good it was though.

My wife's grandparents lived in Lyme Regis then moved to Sidmouth, so we've had our fair share of fish & chips along the coast thereabouts, generally pretty sh!te though from what I do remember

We used to have a good Fish & Chip restaurant in Baldock, called Taylors, very nice, Lassie probably knows it.
It's changed hands now, I haven't been since so not sure of current standard.

I have tasted the Whitby version you mention and to my mind (and the Missus) they were not a patch on the Lyme Fish Bar in Lyme Regis which is the best I've ever had.[/quote] I'd agree with that, twice this year we've been there when in Lyme. Bennetts on the south side of Weymouth harbour is very good too as is Elliots on Hayling (near the Lifeboat Inn) It would be remiss of me not to recommend them.

I have frequented the above mentioned Chiz, albeit 20 years ago or more, when I found the batter very slightly too saltified and the chips ranked as overtly soggy. It was marked down for those reasons and would not even make it into my all-time Top 50.
