I know it sounds a bit surprising but if only 6 threads get started a day then organically a thread without any posts will take 4 days to leave the front page and this time starts again any time someone posts on one. Match days an Sundays ofted sees the largest number of threads started so threads dissapear quicker.
We don't have the tools that give us the chance to set a a removals date for threads that I have fond and that's why I'm messing about a bit with what I have.

The reason for moving threads to the other board is to allow them to move down the front page quicker but still let people who want to read or post on them do so. They are interesting to the minority of the members once they've past a certain point and to have them keep coming to the top of the board is unfair on members that dislike the O/T Threads. It can look as though nothing has changed i they keep at the top of the board for a week or two.

It's down to CAM or myself to move them and make the decision though. That is until I can find a better method.

Who was it that rambled on about pleasing people all of the time and some of the time that ends up packing it all in because they end up please no one?
Yep. I don't have a problem with any of that. You're not creating two separate boards; simply finding a way to park lengthy OT threads somewhere else so that football related topics get more airtime on the main page. If your approach does work, I'd say it's a good compromise. Well done.

The thing I think we need to do is keep the football threads at the top but give folk the chance to chat about other things and keep that side of things out of the football threads.
That's exactly the right approach, I know moving the threads is tedious but it keeps a sparkle to the main message board.

I cannot for the life of me get why folk get so uptight about it!
In fairness to Frog, millmoormagic, his approach does try to keep things as they are. He isn't advocating the creation of a second OT board. This approach of parking certain lengthy OT posts elsewhere so that they disappear more quickly from the main page allows more football related posts to remain longer in view. To me that seems a reasonable compromise. We give a slight priority to football related posts at the expense of some of the lengthier OT posts that are of a minority interest but those posts are still active and can be viewed by anybody.

Yeh i do understand where froggy is coming from, i'm not having a dig really, and absolutely accept that this is a football teams message board and should promote the football threads, i just think that it's a needless form of management when all folk have to do is ignore what they don't wanna read....

It's another nail in the coffin.

Frog loses a vote re separating off topic by a country mile and then introduces separation supported by those who don't like off topics!

Off topics made this board not guess the crowd posts or can we pay on the day.

Are people so thick that if they see O/T then they cannot simply not read the posts?

Moving posts that have a lot of responses so therefore must interest members is the height of stupidity and will be destructive.

As an intelligent poster who has been hopefully a useful poster for many years I can only finish with a wry smile and no further comment.

I always think of this board as a bunch of Millers sat around a table in a pub discussing footy and owt else that crops up as the night goes on.

Me too. Some of the topics like the foot wear one I thought wouldn't get a response but alas it did and brought a but of humour.

You have been removing O/T posts and transferring them to a different section even though the vast majority voted for the status quo.

There have been many votes over the years as bigrich repeatedly attempted to shut down O/T but the members have repeatedly voted to leave things as they are.

If members don't like O/T posts then don't read them but that seems too complex for some!

Finding them in their new home is also far too complex for some
