Hard to argue with that when you see the same formation being used time and again by head coaches/managers and not just at Utd
I have been coaching for a lot of years and have got involved with the coaching journey to a pretty decent level. The basic ideas that they want to teach are ok but its really putting players in boxes and making them play a certain way.

The professional kids doing this every day as their main living vs the part time posties who are relying on pure desire and hard work was DUFC vs EF the other night. They are not bad players to get to this level. Our full time players are almost having their individuality coached out of them. Where's the guile, the determination, the invention? It was with the EF players. Largs and SFA teach great stuff, but far too many coaches cannot adapt this when its needed and they become robots too unable to think for themselves.

I like the league cup matches being played now.

Creates some interest ‘pre season’ and should get us up to speed for season.

The league cup does matter. This doesn’t diminish playing now - actually means these games get attention and televised.

Part timers have worked all summer. We should beat them. It is unacceptable - the TA statement says that

I like league cup format but problem is united have been awful last few seasons

No results is all that matters in this division

When stoke says we are playing the same as second half of last season with all due respect he is talking keech, we won the vast majority of our games second half of last season and had we started the season with Neilson would have likely edged County

So he needs to get us into that kinda form this season, hopefully from the off, doesn't matter in what style it's done, I'll worry about style when we are back in the top flight competing for the top 4-6

Hibs were brutal style wise and won the league, County were not great to watch and won it, it's about results so if he continues the same results wise we generally have had in his tenure then we'll be fine

East fife was a shock as its definitely not the kind of result you'd expect under Neilson at all, especially at Tannadice where our results have been very good under him so let's see what happens in the next couple months with positive backing, we can still get off to a flyer.

    For Shedka...
    29.12 Alloa 2-1 United
    05.01 United 1-1 Partick
    23.02 Falkirk 1-1 United
    09.03 Partick 2-1 United
    30.03 United 1-2 QOS
    04.05 Morton 1-1 United

13 points dropped there alone before the league was decided

So, 3 defeats and 3 draws. How many wins did we have during that spell?

Do you not see points dropped as something that impacted on our challenge?! Points dropped has nothing whatsoever to do with points won! The quality of football was an issue, still is and that's what fans are concerned about. Performance and results.

Certainly looks tactically niaive with no thought other than side way passing - also think you need a certain quality of player for the posession football. You know ones that can trap a ball, find a pass, create channels and distribute to strikers. everything we lack

What a pointless reply stoke just because I said you were talking keech (and stand by it), are you saying that when he came in we should have been flawless and not had any dropped pts even before the transfer window?? Are you that unrealistic, this is not football manager, the fact is his pts per game so far is enough to suggest we'd have been close to being champs, for me I'd say we would have been as County would have had real pressure on them for most of the season but we'll never know... Hopefully his first full league season which starts next Saturday is a successful one

You clearly want Neilson out though and have been hugely negative all close season, let's hope in a couple months that's not the case, it means we'll be doing well

The personal attacks on me just because I don't share your at times blinkered views are unwarranted. And you obviously don't take time to read my posts properly because I've said many times I don't want Neilson out.

Shedka, as I’ve said numerous times in the other threads, we dropped those precious points (with the exception of QoS) because we started each of those games with a negative approach, 1 up front, and never pressed the opposition from kick-off, allowing them to gain confidence, and either win or draw.
Several of them were also at key stages where we had the opportunity to get back into contention for the league, but failed, handing the initiative to our competitors.
While very frustrating losing to QoS at Tannadice, we at least threw everything but the kitchen sink at them, but it was one of those days, where we could just not catch a break, and you just have to take it on the chin. I would rather drop points with that approach, than our usual tippy-tappy p!sh, and had we taken that attacking approach in all of those other games, I can guarantee you, we would have dropped very little points, and possibly won the league.

We simply cannot go into this league campaign handing the initiative to other teams like last season. There is only one person who can influence this.....

I’m not calling for his head, but if he takes the same approach as last year, and we start dropping points early, because nothing has changed (other than personnel), then I’m sorry, but I will be wanting a new manager, and anyone who actually has the desire to win games by playing attacking football. You can only win games by scoring goals, so why not get in early, it’s not rocket science!
