There's nobody more critical than the recruitment policy than me , especially when we find ourselves back at this level .
However my criticism is always based on the fact the analytical and age restriction strategy is far too rigid and makes life harder than it should do .
That said there's something in this analytical system and it would be unfair to say there isn't .
Who saw the potential of Conor Chaplin ?
Absolutely nobody , nothing at Pompey or Coventry that said he could score goals regularly in the championship given he wasn't prolific in league two or one .
The analytics said he could and you just can't recruit a player with his number of goals thus far in the championship for a million quid , you just can't .
Fair play to the recruitment team who saw this even when he was in League Two at Pompey and eventually got their man via Coventry City .
